TOWSON, Md. - Members of the Towson University women's tennis, men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball teams recently hosted a group of very special guests last week, welcoming members of the "Best Buddies" program for an end-of-the-year dance in Towson's University Union.
The dance served as a "prom" for members of the organization. The Tiger volunteers escorted their "Best Buddies" down the red carpet with paparazzi asking for their autographs. Then, security took them over to meet the celebrities and take pictures with them. The dance also featured a live DJ and food donated by local area vendors.
Senior tennis player Andrea Samlin serves as the activities coordinator for the program at Towson and understands the impact the event made on their visitors.
"It's my favorite event to plan," Samlin said. "Seeing all of their faces and smiles makes all the planning and hard work worth it."
"Best Buddies" is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships. It also incorporates integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
