Top Ten Moments: No. 10 - A Memorable Basket

TOWSON, Md. – The 2012-13 school year was filled with many memorable moments for the Tiger Athletic Department. Over the next several weeks on Wednesdays and Fridays, TowsonTigers.com will reveal the top 10 moments as voted on by members of the athletics staff.  The top 10 kicks off with a memorable basket from a member of the Tiger women's basketball team.

No. 10 – March 2 was a date that Tiger basketball fans had circled on their calendar from the start of the season. The men's and women's games that day were slated to be the final games in the Towson Center before the programs moved over to the new Tiger Arena.

For one player attached to the women's team, the game against William & Mary took on an extra special meaning the closer it got.

After exploding for a career-high 36 points against Northeastern on Feb. 28, Tanisha McTiller entered the game against Tribe needing 27 points to reach 1,000 for her career.

McTiller got halfway to the mark during the first 20 minutes of play as she entered intermission with 14 points.

She looked to be well on her way to the mark as a pair of three-pointers gave her 24 points with 8:47 to play in the game.

However, some strong defense by William & Mary on McTiller over the next eight minutes limited the junior guard to just a free throw, bringing her total in the game to 25 and her total for her career to 998.

McTiller made one of two from the line with 44 seconds to get to 26 points for the game and 999 for her career. With the Tigers holding a 74-63 lead, it looked like McTiller's milestone might have to wait for the next game.

Then, with 16 seconds to play, the Tigers forced a turnover which put the ball in McTiller's hands for one more chance. The Chicago, Ill. native made the most of that last chance and scored a lay-up with 11 seconds to play. That basket, gave McTiller 28 points in the game and 1,001 for her career. She is the 15th player in program history to reach the mark.

McTiller's bucket was also the last basket scored in Towson Center history. (For the complete game recap, click here).

Check back on June 26 for the No. 9 moment in the countdown.
