Good morning Tiger Nation and welcome to the final Morning Roar of the 2012-13 year!
Let's Unleash the Roar
As the weekend came to a close, so did the Towson University athletics calendar for the 2012-13 year. @Towson_BASE was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament yesterday afternoon when they fell to Florida Atlantic University 6-5. The day before the Tigers took on top-seeded North Carolina and gave the Tar Heels quite the scare before they eventually fell 8-5. I was lucky enough to be on the trip with this team and to be a part of their NCAA experience, first hand and was something I will not soon forget. What a great group of young men to be around, they were not scared of the big stage, in fact they relished it. The Tigers made just a few too many mistakes that they couldn't overcome, especially on the base paths. But they showed flashes of greatness, from Andrew Parker hitting an absolute moon shot over the left field fence in game one, Mike Volpe shutting down a top 25 offense or Peter Bowles making spectacular catch after spectacular catch, this team gave it their all. What a year it was for the Tigers Baseball team, what they overcame to finish the way they did was something truly special and I am glad they allowed me to be a part of it. In the end it may not have been the weekend the Tigers wanted in their first trip back the NCAA tournament in 22 years, but this is a young team with a lot of returning talent that I know teams will not look forward to playing.
With the athletic season officially coming to an end, it is now time for summer. Don't forget to sign your young Tiger fans up for Towson Summer Camps where your child can learn from some of the best people in all of college sports, both Towson coaches and student-athletes. It's a perfect way to make sure that your young athlete has a summer they will never forget and pick up lessons that will help them both on and off the field.
I want to take this chance to thank some people that made this all possible. First of all a huge thanks goes out to Director of Media Relations Dan O'Connell and his staff of Dustin Semonavick, Megan Bradshaw, Megan O'Brien and Kevin Hess. These are the people behind the scenes that write a large majority of the stories on TowsonTigers.com and they don't get the recognition that they deserve, some of the best people I have ever met in this business. PLUS, they had to put up with me all year long which is no easy feat and they are the ones that make the Morning Roar crisp and clean. Also a big thanks to the administrators, Mike Waddell and Mike Harris for giving me this platform to share my opinion with you fans, it was a lot of fun to get a chance to help inform Tiger Nation what was going on each and every day.
I also want to give a special thanks to my boss, the Director of New Media, Damon Lewis. Damon took me under his wing two years ago with an internship at the Towson Sports Network and has been a true role model and taught me so many things that I will take with me in my career. I may not say it enough but Thank You for everything you have taught me, without you I wouldn't have this amazing job that I have today.
Last but certainly not least I want to thank another mentor of mine, Spiro Morekas. You would be hard pressed to find anyone that has seen more Towson University athletic events then Spiro and it seems like he remembers every play of every game he has broadcasted over the last two years. Even though we bicker a lot and keep trying to find new nicknames or ways to poke fun at one another it is all in good fun. Spiro has shown me what it takes to be a good play-by-play analyst and I hope that one day I can have even close to a long career like he has enjoyed.
I can't forget to thank you, the fans of Tiger Nation. Without you I literally wouldn't have a job! Everything that we do here at TowsonTigers.com and the Towson Sports Network is for you to help you see a side of your favorite athletes that you might not see by just coming to the games. If you read the Roar every day, once a week or even one time over the year I want you to know that I truly appreciate it. There is no greater feeling for a journalist than knowing that they are informing the masses and I hope I did that for you this year.
So thanks for reading the final edition of the Morning Roar for the year, be sure to check back throughout the summer for updates on all your favorite Tiger teams. You can always follow me on twitter Zach Maskavich">@ZachMaskavich and until we talk again have a safe and happy summer and as always, GO TIGERS!
