TOWSON, Md. - Highlighted by the annual Tiger Classic Tournament and lengthy homestands in both March and April, Towson University women's tennis coach Doug Neagle has announced the 2013-14 season schedule for his team.
The Tigers will open the regular season at home with the Tiger Classic at the Towson Center Tennis Courts in a three-day tournament on September 6-8. It will be the first of two straight tournaments to begin the season for Towson, as the Tigers then travel to Navy on Sept. 20-22 for a tournament in Annapolis, Md.
The dual-match season gets underway on October 2 as the Tigers host Mount St. Mary's for a match at 3 p.m.
Towson concludes the fall portion of its schedule with another tournament at Navy on Oct. 11-13 before heading to the ITA Regionals on Oct. 24-27.
The dual meet season restarts in full swing on February 1-2, when the Tigers head down to Sweet Briar, Va., for matches against James Madison and Appalachian State. The match against the Dukes on Feb. 1 will serve as Towson's opener to its Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) schedule.
The Tigers face three additional opponents on the road before returning home, including a match at George Mason on Feb. 8 and a doubleheader at Lehigh against the Mountain Hawks and Colgate on Feb. 15.
Towson hosts Montana State on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. before two matches the following day at Salisbury against the Seagulls and UMES. The Tigers then conclude the month with a match against Bucknell in Baltimore on Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
As March opens, the Tigers will play seven consecutive road matches in 20 days, beginning with a match at Navy on March 2. After matches at UMBC and George Washington, the Tigers will head south to face Savannah State on March 17 and the College of Charleston on March 20 in South Carolina. The Cougars are entering their first season as members of the CAA this year.
Towson concludes its roadtrip with a match at UNCW on March 22 at 10 a.m.
The Tigers begin a five-match home-stand on March 26 by hosting Loyola and facing Stony Brook on March 28. The team wraps up the month with three matches in two days, facing Coppin State and Rider on March 30 and Lafayette on March 31.
After competing in a road match at Drexel on April 4, the Tigers end the regular season with four home matches in a row, beginning with CAA rival Hofstra on April 6. After facing Morgan State and Delaware, the final match of the Tigers' regular season is scheduled for April 13 against Monmouth at 11 a.m.
The CAA Tennis Championships are slated for April 17-20 at William & Mary.
