COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri hit .481 en route to a 3-0 win over the Towson University volleyball team on Friday night as part of the Mizzou Classic. Towson got three kills and three blocks from freshman Lindsay Flaherty in the contest.
The two squads battled early in the first set and were tied at 5-5. Missouri (13-0) scored six of the next eight points to open up an 11-7 lead. Missouri increased its advantage to 18-10 on a kill from Emily Wilson. A kill from Lisa Henning secured a 25-11 set win for Missouri and the early lead in the match.
Missouri took a 6-0 lead over Towson (5-10) to start the second set. An attack error by Towson gave Missouri a 16-7 advantage in the set. Wilson's kill gave the home team a 21-15 lead in the set. Missouri secured a 25-16 victory in the second set on a Tiger attack error.
Missouri scored nine of the first 13 points in the third set to take an early lead. Three straight points from Missouri extended its advantage to 16-7. Missouri closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the third set.
In addition to Flaherty's contributions, Towson got five kills each from senior Dayane Van Ass and junior Victoria Williams. Sophomore Kyana Miller dished out eight assists while junior Paige Sekerak posted a team-high seven digs.
Henning led all players with 11 kills while Molly Kreklow dished out 40 assists and six digs for Missouri.
Towson returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 for day two of the Mizzou Classic. Towson battles Middle Tennessee at 1 p.m. (EST) and Samford at 5 p.m. (EST).
