Tigers Fall to Appalachian State, 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Victoria Williams posted nine kills but it was not enough as the Towson University volleyball team fell to Appalachian State, 3-0 on day two of the N.C. State Courtyard Midtown Classic Saturday.

Appalachian State got off to a quick start and took a 7-0 lead in the first set. The Tigers (3-4) battled back as a service ace from junior Paige Sekerak made it 9-5. However, the Mountaineers extended their advantage to 20-8 on a block and took a 25-12 victory in the first set.

In the second set, the Tigers led 16-15 before a 5-0 run gave Appalachian State a lead it would not relinquish. The Mountaineers claimed a 25-20 second set victory and took a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, Appalachian State hit .423 to the Tigers' .333 and claimed a 25-18 victory for a 3-0 win in the match.

Williams added four digs and two blocks in addition to her kills for the Tigers. Junior Saitaua Iosia had five kills and six digs while sophomore Kelsey Polak dished out 14 assists. Sekerak had four digs and three assists for the Tigers.

Emily Corrigan led Appalachian State and all players with 12 kills while Paige Brown had 31 assists and six digs.

The Tigers return to action when the N.C. State Tournament wraps up on Saturday night. Towson faces the Wolfpack at 7 p.m.
