BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md. – Senior Katlyn Axenfeld scored her first goal of the season, but the Towson women's soccer team fell victim to a late Seahawk score and dropped a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) match to UNC Wilmington, 2-1, Friday afternoon at the Tiger Soccer Complex.

"I thought for 90 minutes we played pretty well," noted Head Coach Greg Paynter. "We asked our girls to really compete, and I think they did that. In the first half they got in a hole, but in the second half they worked and got out of it. I thought we had a good part of the play in the second half; even in the last minute we had a chance."

The first half was very even to start. Towson (3-8-2, 0-4 CAA) had an excellent chance to score first in the 24^th minute when sophomore Emily Marshall took a free kick 20 yards out from the center of the goal. Her excellent shot forced an equally impressive save from UNCW's Liisa Rahkola.

The Seahawks (7-6-1, 2-3 CAA) got on the board in the 24^th minute when Katrina Guillou capitalized on a defensive miscue by Towson in the 18-yard box. Eight minutes later, senior Erin Quinn made a terrific save on a one-on-one breakaway chance for Guillou to keep the score at 1-0.

The Tigers got off to a fast start in the second half. Just 57 seconds in, Axenfeld gathered a deflected shot and buried it in the back of the net to level the game at 1-1. Both teams continued to battle, playing physical soccer through to the final whistle.

Madison Melnick scored the game winner in the 86^th minute when teammate Maddie McCormick's shot was deflected to Melnick, whose tightly angled shot snuck past Quinn.

Towson returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 12 when the Tigers host College of Charleston at 1 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
