Volleyball Heads South to Battle Elon and UNCW

Time To Be Road Warriors: After posting a pair of home wins last weekend, the Tigers hit the road for four straight contests. The action starts Thursday at CAA newcomer, Elon and continues Saturday at UNC Wilmington.

Scouting the Tigers: Towson improved to 17-3 overall and 4-2 in the CAA with wins over James Madison and William & Mary last week. Senior Victoria Williams powered the Tiger offense with 31 kills and a .562 hitting percentage in the two wins. So far this season senior Saitaua Iosia leads the squad with 255 kills, 138 digs, 31 service aces and 31 blocks. Junior Haley Pa'akaula has contributed 223 kills, 165 digs, 35 blocks and 22 service aces. Redshirt junior Aimee Schubert has dished out a team-high 408 assists while senior Paige Sekerak has 265 digs.

Looking at Our Opponents: CAA newcomer, Elon is currently 5-15 on the year and 0-5 in conference play. The Phoenix are led by Sydney Busa, who has 196 kills, 128 digs and 59 blocks. Ana Nicksic has dished out 316 assists.

UNC Wilmington welcomes College of Charleston and Delaware to town before hosting the Tigers on Saturday. Entering play this week, Morgan Kline has a team-high 221 kills, 191 digs and 19 service aces. Morgan Owney leads the backline defense with 204 kills.

Series History: Thursday's match will be first between the Tigers and Phoenix in the CAA, however it is the third meeting overall. The series is tied 1-1. The last time the two met, Towson claimed a 3-0 win as part of the 2004 Tiger Invitational.

Saturday will be the 25th meeting all time between the Tigers and the Seahawks. Towson leads the series 17-7 despite UNCW having swept both matches last year.

I'm Honored: Senior Victoria Williams was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Williams had 31 kills (5.17 per set) and hit a blistering .562 in the Tigers' two wins last week. She is the third Tiger to earn CAA Offensive Player of the Week honors this season (Saitaua Iosia and Haley Pa'akaula).

Defending the Home Court: The Tigers picked up a pair of home wins last weekend against James Madison and William & Mary. The victories improved the Tigers record at home this year to 10-0. It is the most home wins by the Tigers since the 2006 squad went 10-5 at home that year. The best home record by a Tiger squad in the last 10 years belongs to the 2004 team who was a perfect 14-0 in home matches that season.

Let's Play Three: The Tigers have had plenty of success this season when they have to play just three sets in a match. Both of the Tigers' wins last weekend came in three and the team is now 13-1 this year when it plays just three sets.

Four for Four: On Friday night against James Madison, the Tigers had four players record double digit kills in the match (Victoria Williams-16, Saitaua Iosia-11, Lindsay Flaherty and Haley Pa'akaula-10 each). It was the second time this season the Tigers recorded that feat. In the win over Coppin State in September, the Tigers also had four reach double digits (Pa'akaula-15, Williams and Candace Steadman - 11 each and Iosia with 10).

Up Next: The Tigers remain on the road next week, heading to Delaware for both contests (Delaware State-Oct. 21, Delaware-Oct. 24). Towson is back in SECU Arena on October 30 to host Northeastern at 7 p.m.
