Tigers Begin Key Three Match Homestand on Thursday

It's Good to be Home: After going 4-0 on their recent road trip, the Tiger volleyball team returns home for a busy stretch of three matches in four days. Two of the top three teams in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) visit Towson this week. Towson hosts Northeastern (Thursday), first-place Hofstra (Friday) and second-place College of Charleston (Sunday).

Scouting the Tigers: Towson ran its current win streak to seven straight with a 3-0 victory at Delaware on Friday night. Senior Saitaua Iosia led a balanced effort with 12 kills, five digs and two service aces. So far this season, Iosia leads the Tigers with 327 kills, 166 digs, 37 service aces, 37 blocks and 22 assists. Junior Haley Pa'akaula has contributed 262 kills and 199 digs while redshirt junior Aimee Schubert has dished out 503 assists. Senior Paige Sekerak leads the defensive efforts with 311 digs while sophomore Lindsay Flaherty has a team-best 83 blocks.

Looking at Our Opponents: Northeastern earned a split of its action last weekend, defeating Elon before falling to UNC Wilmington. The Huskies come into Thursday night with a 10-14, 2-8 CAA record. Brigitte Burcescu leads the team with 327 kills and 48 blocks while Jamie Bredahl has 217 kills, 200 assists and 217 digs.

Hofstra will play at Delaware on Wednesday night before visiting the Tigers on Friday. The Pride enter the week with a record of 21-3, 9-1 in the CAA. Kelsie Wills leads the squad with 366 kills and 219 digs.

College of Charleston heads to Delaware on Friday night before making the trek south to Towson on Sunday. The Cougars are 16-9 and 8-2 in CAA action. Cara Howley paces the Cougars with 315 kills, 209 digs and 26 service aces.

Series History: Thursday will be the 30th meeting all-time between the Tigers and Northeastern. The Huskies lead the series 19-10, however the Tigers earned a 3-1 win when the the two squads met in Boston earlier this year.

Hofstra holds a 41-11 advantage in the series between the two squads. The Pride have won four straight in the match-up following a 3-1 victory in Hempstead in early October.

College of Charleston is 4-0 all-time against the Tigers. Towson looked to have the Cougars on the ropes in the meeting in Charleston earlier this season but the Cougars rallied for the 3-2 victory.

Protect Our House: Towson returns home for three huge games in SECU Arena. Towson boasts a 10-0 record at home this year. It is the most home wins by the Tigers since the 2006 squad went 10-5 at home that year. The best home record by a Tiger squad in the last 10 years belongs to the 2004 team who was a perfect 14-0 in home matches that season.

Win the First One: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been winning set number one. Towson is 20-1 this season when it wins the first set. Of those 21 matches, Towson has won 15 of them in three sets.

Aces for Autism: During the 2014 season, the Towson University volleyball team will be raising funds for the advocacy, support, and education of those living and loving on the autism spectrum. Pledges can be made in either a flat amount using the donation boxes fans will find on the mezzanine level in SECU Arena or take the TU Team Challenge and pledge per Towson kill, block, dig, assist, or ace season totals.

Up Next: Following this week's action, Towson heads out on the road for its final away action of the regular season. The Tigers will play matches at William & Mary and James Madison. Towson returns to SECU Arena on Friday, Nov. 14 to host UNC Wilmington. The following night, the Tigers close out the regular season by hosting Elon and will honor their seniors before that match.
