FAIRFAX, Va. – The Towson University men's swimming and diving program improved to 4-1 on the season with wins over College of Charleston (score of 225-124) and George Mason (213-139) on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Quad-Meet, hosted by George Mason.
"It was a great weekend for our swimmers and divers," Head Coach
Pat Mead said. "We came in with an expectation to swim fast and dive exceptional. Both the men and women did a tremendous job supporting each other on the pool deck and in the water."
The Tiger effort was led by senior
Matt Lowe who picked up wins in three events; the 1650-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly.

Matt Lowe was outstanding today, winning all three of his individual events in excellent fashion," Mead said. Â
Lowe's first win of the two-day meet came in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:41.83. That event was impressive for the Tigers as sophomore
Tim Schade finished in second-place (16:01.50) and sophomore
Brandon Ress finished third (16:05.03).
The Tigers were successful in the 500-yard freestyle as Lowe earned his second victory of the day, timing 4:33.08. Ress timed 4:33.81 for the second-place finish while senior
Matt Collingwood finished third overall with a time of 4:39.05.
Lowe earned his final win of the day in the 200-yard butterfly, timing 1:50.61. Junior
Matt McKenney earned a second-place finish in that event with a time of 1:50.76.
Sophomore
Nick Breschi had an impressive performance on both days, winning two individual events and swimming on two victorious relays. He earned victories in the 100-yard backstroke (50.67) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:49.76).
Breschi recorded first-place finishes swimming on the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.38) and the 400-yard medley relay (3:22.57). The 200-yard medley relay team consisted of Breschi, senior
John Gartland, McKenney and junior
Matt Hans. Breschi, Gartland, McKenney and junior
Sawyer Martin combined for the 400-yard medley relay win.
Hans earned a second victory in the 100-yard freestyle, timing 46.17. Martin finished second (46.56) in the same event.
McKenney recorded his third victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 49.08.
Gartland was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.88) for his third win of the weekend.
Senior
Jon Burr earned two first-place finishes during the two-day event. He recorded a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, timing 1:53.37. Burr's second win came in 200-yard freestyle when he timed 1:41.79.
The 200-yard freestyle was a successful event for the Tigers as they claimed the top four places. Collingwood (1:42.47), Martin (1:42.65) and Ress (1:43.51) came in second, third and fourth-place, respectively.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 8th at 1 p.m. as they host George Washington at Burdick Pool.
