Men's Basketball Opens Season at Alabama

Story Lines
The Tigers begin the season on the road Friday evening.  It marks the fourth time in the past five seasons Towson has opened on the road.  Towson is 0-3 in road openers during the stretch.

This season marks the second time in school history Towson will open the season against a team from the SEC.  The Tigers opened the 1980-81 season on the road at Auburn.  

Towson used a balanced scoring effort to defeat Slippery Rock in its only exhibition game Nov. 7.

Towson is coming off its most successful season in school history as they went 25-11 a season ago.

Head Coach Pat Skerry enters his fourth season as the head coach of hte Tigers.  He has guided Towson to 43 wins over the past two seasons.

Towson returns two starters from last season in guard Four McGlynn and forward Timajh Parker-Rivera.

The Tigers begin their second season inside the SECU Arena.  Towson went 15-1 in the inaugural season.

The Towson Tigers open the 2014-15 season on the road at Alabama.  Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. and can be seen live on SEC Network Plus.

Friday's season opener can be heard live on CBS Sports Radio 1300.  Spiro Morekas will provide the play-by-play.

Friday night's season opener at Alabama can be seen live on SEC Network Plus.  The network is only available on the internet.

Season Ticket Holder Gifts
Season ticket holders will have the chance to pick up their gift at any of the home games in November or December.  A table will be set up by the will call booths.

Season Openers
Since moving up to Division I prior to the 1979-80 season, Towson is 15-19 in season openers.  Over that same stretch, the Tigers are just 2-13 when opening the season on the road.

First 5 on the Road
For just the third time in school history, Towson will open the season with five-straight games away from home.  The Tigers will play three true road games and a pair of neutral-site games.   The Tigers opened the 1993-94 season with five games away from home.  Four of the games were on the road, and one was a neutral site. Towson played its longest stretch away from home to start a season in 2012-13, when the Tigers played their first 10 games of the season away from home.  Seven of the 10 games were road contests, while three were neutral site games in Richmond, Ky.

vs. Alabama
The Tigers and  Crimson Tide are meeting for the second time on the hardwood.  UA won the only other meeting, 71-52, on Dec. 28, 1990.  The game was played in Pensacola, Florida.

vs. the SEC
The Tigers are 0-10 all-time against teams from the SEC.  Towson has played Auburn, South Carolina and Tennessee two times, and Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU one time.

Opening vs. the SEC
The Tigers are opening the season against a team from the SEC for the second time in school history.  Towson opened the 1980-81 season on the road at Auburn, falling 87-63.

Exhibition Victory
The Tigers handed Slipper Rock a 69-57 defeat in the team's lone exhibition game Nov. 7 at SECU Arena.  Towson put

Parker-Rivera Does it at the Line
Timajh Parker-Rivera missed both of his field-goal attempts against Slippery Rock.  That did not discourage the junior as he found his way to the free-throw line 12 times.  He finished 9-of-12 from the charity stripe, while adding 11 rebounds and five assists.

What Returns in 2014-15
The Tigers are looking to replace their top four scores from a team that went 25-11 a season ago.  Junior Four McGlynn is the top returning scorer at 9.2 points per game.  Junior Timajh Parker-Rivera is the top returning rebounder at 5.2 per game.

Season Openers
The Tigers are 1-2 in season openers under head coach Pat Skerry.  Dating back to the 1958-59 season, Towson is 29-26 in season openers.  The Tigers put an end to a three-game losing streak in season openers with a 72-45 victory over Navy last season.

Opening on the Road
Towson is opening the season on the road for the fourth time in the last five seasons.  The Tigers have not enjoyed success in the road openers as they have gone 0-3 over that stretch.  

Skerry in Season Openers
Now entering his fourth season at Towson, Pat Skerry is 1-2 in season openers.  He led the Tigers to a 72-45 victory over Navy last season, after dropping the season opener in each of his first two seasons.
