TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Four McGlynn knocked down five three pointers and John Davis recorded a double-double as the Towson Tigers opened the 2014-15 season with an 82-54 defeat on the road at Alabama.
The performance was the first double-double in Davis' career as he finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds. McGlynn finished with a game-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc. Alex Gavrilovic was the third Tiger in double figures with 14 points.
The Tigers (0-1) jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage on a pair of Timajh Parker-River free throws and a Walter Foster layup. The Crimson Tide (1-0) would find their offense and jump out to a 26-19 advantage with 6:17 remaining in the first half.
Towson did not go away quietly as Gavrilovic and McGlynn hit back-to-back three pointers to pull the Tigers within one. The Crimson Tide pushed the advantage back to three with a pair of free throws, before a costly technical foul on the Tigers allowed UA to close the half on an 11-5 run and take a 39-30 lead into intermission.
The Tigers got on the board early in the second half on McGlynn's fifth three-pointer of the game, but that jumper was followed by a 16-4 Crimson Tide run over the next 5:29 to extend the deficit to 18 points.
Turnovers were the story, especially in the second half, as the Crimson Tide converted 22 Tiger turnovers into 34 points. The rebounding battle was even, with both teams pulling down 34 rebounds. Each team also had 14 offensive rebounds, converting those into 11 points each.
The Tigers return to action Monday night as they travel to face Morgan State. Tip time is set for 7 p.m. and can be heard live on CBS Sport Radio 1300 with Spiro Morekas on the call.
