WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite six saves by freshman goalkeeper
Emilee Woodall, the Towson University women's field hockey team (2-15, 0-6 CAA) fell to Georgetown (6-12, 0-5 Big East) by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Hoyas took the lead as
Aliyah Graves-Brown scored an unassisted goal, just over a minute into the game.
Junior
Heather Jenney had a scoring opportunity for the Tigers in the game's second minute but her shot went wide.
Georgetown capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity in the 26th minute as
Sarah Butterfield scored off a pass from
Devin Homes.
The Hoyas outshot the Tigers 7-1 in the first half as Woodall recorded three first-half saves.
The second half was scoreless for both teams until Georgetown scored following a penalty corner to take a 3-0 lead.
Tori Hideshima recorded the goal with Homes picking up her second assist of the day.
Towson had three good opportunities in the second half but were unable to get past Georgetown's
Rachel Skonecki. Jenney led the Tigers in shots (2) while senior
Courtney Branco and junior
Stacey Mackintosh each recorded a shot for Towson.
Georgetown outshot the Tigers 8-3 in the second half for a 15-4 shot advantage on the day.
The Hoyas' Skronecki was only forced to record one save to earn the win. Woodall recorded three second-half saves for a game total of six.
