Men's Basketball Opens Home Season Against Goucher

Story Lines
Towson will play its 2014 home opener against Goucher Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

The two campuses are located just 1.2 miles away from each other.

The Tigers and Gophers are playing for the first time on the hardwood.

Towson is 27-8 in home openers dating back to the 1958-59 season.  Pat Skerry is 1-2 in home openers at Towson.

This is the second season playing in SECU Arena.  Last year, Towson opened the building with a 72-45 victory over Navy.

The Tigers are 4-1 on the season an off to their best start since 1989-90.  A victory on Wednesday will equal the best start since Towson joined Division I in 1979.

Alex Gavrilovic knocked down a three-pointer with 3.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Tigers a 79-75 victory over Monmouth.

The Tigers held three-straight opponents under 50 points for the first time in school history.  Towson allowed 46 to Morgan State, 49 to Central Connecticut State and 42 to Bethune-Cookman.


Tonight's Games
Towson plays it home opener Wednesday evening as they welcome Goucher College to SECU Arena.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Wednesday's game can be heard live on CBS Sports Radio 1300.  Spiro Morekas will provide the play-by-play, while Jerry Bembry will provide the analysis.

Season Ticket Holder Gifts
Season ticket holders will have the chance to pick up their gift at any of the home games in November or December.  A table will be set up by the will call booths.

2015 Charleston Classic
Towson has been selected to participate in the 2015 Gildan Charleston Classic on Nov. 19-22, 2015.  Other teams in the tournament include Bradley, George Mason, Long Beach State, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall and Virginia.

vs. Goucher
The Tigers and Gophers are meeting for the first time on the hardwood.  The two campuses are separated by just 1.2 miles.

Home Openers
Towson is 27-8 in home openers dating back to the 1958-59 season.  The Tigers are 1-2 under head coach Pat Skerry.  Last season, Towson opened SECU Arena with a 72-45 victory over Navy.

The Tigers are off to a 4-1 start this season.  It is the fifth-best start for the program dating back to the 1958-59 season.

Big Shot Alex
Senior Alex Gavrilovic hit the biggest shot of his career as he knocked down a corner three with 3.5 seconds left in overtime to give Towson the win over Monmouth.  He had given the Tigers the lead on the previous possession with a put-back slam.  

Second-Half Rally
The Tigers looked to be left for dead in the second half against Monmouth as they trailed by 16 points in the second half.  Towson trailed by eight with 2:26 left before ending regulation on an 8-0 run.

Automatic McGlynn
Junior Four McGlynn is nearly automatic from the free-throw line.  The guard made his first 23 attempts this season and is 26-of-27 on the year.  

Davis Comes Up Big
John Davis had a monster game against Monmouth as he set career highs in points and rebounds.  Davis finished the game with 22 points and 13 rebounds.  It was the second double-double of the season.

Winning in the 50s
The Tigers set a school record by winning back-to-back games while scoring in the 50s.  Towson scored 51 points in a victory over Morgan State, and 58 in victory over Central Connecticut State.

Living in the 40s
Towson turned up the defense as it held three-straight opponents to under 50 points for the first time in school history.  The Tigers held Morgan State to 46 points, Central Connecticut State to 49 points and Bethune-Cookman to 42 points.  Towson has not held 17 opponents under 50 points in the Division I era.

McGlynn Clutch Down the Stretch
Junior Four McGlynn came up clutch in the final minutes against Morgan State by hitting all six free throws in the game's final 3:48.  He went 4-for-4 in the final 18 seconds to secure the victory.
