Men’s Basketball Slowed by Off Shooting Night

TOWSON, Md. – Towson put together a strong second half, but it could not overcome the first 20 minutes as the Tigers fell, 67-53, to La Salle Saturday evening at SECU Arena.

The Tigers (7-4) came out in the second half with a 5-2 spurt that forced an Explorers timeout.  Towson kept the momentum out of the timeout as John Davis hit a pair of layups in the midst of a 12-6 run that cut the deficit to 40-32 with 11:29 remaining.

The Explorers (6-5) had a quick response to the Tigers run with a 7-0 run of their own that pushed the advantage back to 47-32.

Jordan Price was the catalyst of the Explorers attack all night as he scored 20 of his game-high 31 points in the second half.

Towson made eight-straight foul shots over a 50 second span to trim the deficit to 11.  The Tigers were unable to cut into the lead as the Explorers hit all six of their free throws during that stretch.

McGlynn helped to keep the Tigers in the game as he scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.  He finished 6-of-6 from the foul line and is now 55-of-57 from the free-throw line on the season.

The Tigers got off to a good start in the first half as Timajh Parker-Rivera scored on a driving layup to put Towson up 2-0.  John Davis came off the bench and scored just seconds after entering to give the Tigers the lead back at 6-5.

The Explorers would take control of the first half from there as they used a 7-0 run to take the lead the rest of the half.

The lead would grow to 17 points at the end of the first half as Towson shot just 6-of-24 from the field and turned the ball over 12 times.

The Tigers won the rebounding battle for the eighth time this season as they outrebounded La Salle 38-34.  Towson held an 18-14 advantage on the offensive glass.

Towson has a quick turnaround as the Tigers travel to face Navy Monday at 7 p.m.
