Tigers Seek to Keep In-State Streak Alive at Navy

Story Lines
Towson will look to end a three-game losing streak as they travel to face Navy Dec. 22 at 7 p.m.

The Tigers are in the midst of a three-game losing streak for the first time since Jan. 21-26, 2013.

Towson is making its first trip to Annapolis since the 2009 season.  The Tigers are 3-2 in five previous trips.

The Tigers are 8-0 against teams from the state of Maryland dating back to the start of the 2013 season.

Towson is 2-0 this season in road games in the state.  The Tigers won earlier at Morgan State (51-46) and at UMBC (77-66).

The two teams opened SECU Arena Nov. 8, 2013 with the Tigers coming away with a 72-45 victory.

Towson went 0-for-14 from behind the arc against La Salle.  It marked the second time this season they have not made a three in a game.  They went 0-for-12 at Georgetown.  

The first half has been the decider during the three-game losing streak as they are 18-for-75 (.240) during the game's opening 20 minutes.


Tonight's Game
Towson hits the road for a matchup at Navy Dec. 22.  Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

2015 Charleston Classic
Towson has been selected to participate in the 2015 Gildan Charleston Classic on Nov. 19-22, 2015.  Other teams in the tournament include Bradley, George Mason, Long Beach State, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Seton Hall and Virginia.

vs. Navy
The two teams are meeting for the 13th time on the hardwood with the Tigers holding an 8-4 advantage in the all-time series.  Towson is 3-2 in games played in Annapolis.  The Tigers opened SECU Arena with a 72-45 victory Nov. 8, 2013.

vs. the Patriot League
The Tigers are 71-124 all-time against current members of the Patriot League.  Towson has a winning record against Navy (8-4) and Lehigh (13-12).

Rare Home Loss
The Tigers suffered a rare home loss to La Salle at SECU arena.  It was just the second loss in the new arena.  Towson is now 17-2 in SECU Arena.

Three-Point Struggles
Towson struggled from beyond the arc against La Salle.  The Tigers went 0-for-15 from deep, marking the second time this season Towson has not made a three-pointer.

First-Half Shooting
The Tigers have struggled offensively in the first half during their three game losing streak.  They are just 18-for-75 (.240) in the game's opening period.  Towson went 5-of-21 (.231) against Georgetown, 7-of-30 (.233) against Temple and 6-of-24 (.250) against La Salle.  

Offensive Rebounds
The Tigers have hit the offensive glass during the Pat Skerry era.  Since the 2005-06 season, Towson has pulled down at least 20 offensive rebounds in a game 17 times.  12 of those 17 times have come since Skerry took over at the start of the 2011 season.

Gavrilovic Shooting Touch
Senior Alex Gavrilovic had a career shooting day against Temple as he scored a career-high 17 points.  He hit all three of his three-point attempts and was 6-for-6 from the foul line.

Getting to the Line
The Tigers have lived at the free-throw line through the early part of the season.  Towson is currently 10th in the NCAA in free-throw attempts (270) and tied for 10th in free-throws made (187).  The Tigers have made three more free throws than their opponents have attempted.

Mr. Double-Double
Forward John Davis has been Mr. Double-Double this season as the sophomore has recorded a CAA-best six double-doubles this season.  Davis is getting stronger as the season goes, having four double-doubles in his last five games.

Controlling the Greater Baltimore Area
The Tigers have played four games this season against a team from the Greater Baltimore area.  Towson is 4-0 with victories over Morgan State, Goucher, UMBC and Coppin State.  

In-State Winning
Towson has had success the past two seasons against teams from the state of Maryland.  The Tigers are 4-0 this season after going 4-0 in 2013-14.  The Tigers will meet one other team from the state when they play at Navy Dec. 22.
