TOWSON, Md. – Towson got a career- high 27-points from
Four McGlynn, but it was his half-court shot at the buzzer that rattled out in the Tigers heartbreaking 85-84 overtime loss to Fairleigh Dickinson Monday evening at SECU Arena.
Towson (7-6) came out in overtime and scored the first four points as McGlynn hit
John Davis down low for an easy layup and McGlynn hit a pull-up in the lane. The Knights responded with a three-pointer from Stephan Jiggetts, and then tied the game with a three-pointer from Darian Anderson with 41 seconds remaining.
The Tigers took the lead back as
Timajh Parker-Rivera hit one of two free throws with 32 seconds remaining. But, FDU held the ball for the final shot and Matt MacDonald found a cutting Marques Townes for the game-winning layup with five seconds remaining.
McGlynn took the inbounds pass and put up a halfcourt shot that nearly banked in for the game winner.
Towson looked to have control of the game after McGlynn hit a three-pointer with 12 minutes remaining to put the Tigers ahead 60-46.
But, FDU (5-6) would not go away as they continued to chip away at the lead and used a 14-4 run to tie the game with 2:24 left to play.
After the Knights took a two-point lead, Parker-Rivera converted a three-point play to give the Tigers back the lead. Towson had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but
Eddie Keith II made one of two free throws to send it into overtime.
The Tigers played one of their best halves of the season in the first half as they went 20-for-30 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. The hot-shooting half helped Towson take a 46-32 lead into halftime.
McGlynn led all scorers with 27 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. He went 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. Parker-Rivera and Davis each added 15 points.
The Tigers return to action Jan. 3 as they open CAA play at James Madison. Tipoff time is set for 4 p.m.
