Maryland/Syracuse Set for National Championship

TOWSON, Md. – Top-seeded University of Maryland and second-seeded Syracuse University will meet in the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse National Championship game on Sunday, May 25. The game will take place at Johnny Unitas® Stadium on the campus of Towson University at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday's game will be the third this season between the Terrapins and Orange. Maryland won the regular season meeting 12-10 and defeated Syracuse 13-7 to capture the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) title.

Maryland advanced to its second straight national championship and fourth in the last five years with a 9-6 win over No. 5 Northwestern in Friday's semifinal action. Kelly McPartland led all players with three goals in the game while Abbey Clipp made five saves in goal.

Maryland will be looking for its 12th national title and first since 2010, the last time the title was awarded in Unitas® Stadium.

Syracuse advanced to the national title game for the second time in the last three years with a 16-8 win over No. 6 Virginia in the semifinals Friday evening. Alyssa Murray and Kayla Treanor combined for 16 points in the win on Friday. Murray had six goals which is the most by a Syracuse player in an NCAA Tournament game while Treanor had four goals which upped her season mark 77.

The Orange will be looking for their first ever national championship in women's lacrosse and first for a women's sport at Syracuse.
