Women's Soccer Opens Home Slate Friday vs. DePaul

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson women's soccer team opens its home season with a pair of non-conference games against DePaul on Friday, August 29 at 4 p.m. and Georgetown on Sunday, August 31 at 1 p.m. against Georgetown.

The Tigers are coming off a season-opening trip to the JMU Invitational where they finished second with a record of 1-0-1. In the first round against UMass, Towson and the Minutemen played to a double-overtime scoreless draw. In the final round on Sunday, the Tigers defeated Xavier, 2-0. Junior Nicole Nicholas and freshmen Maddie Bove and Gabby Scirica earned spots on the all-tournament team. The 1-0-1 start is the best beginning Towson has recorded since 2007, and it earned the Tigers a No. 7 ranking in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Mid-Atlantic Region poll.

DePaul begins the 2014 season 2-0 after a pair of 2-1 wins over Central Michigan (August 22) at home and Nebraska (August 24) on the road. Abby Reed's two goals lead the Blue Demons and both were game winners. Rachel Pitman and Elise Wyatt each have one goal for DePaul. Alejandria Godinez has made the start in goal in both contests, playing the full 90 in both. She has allowed just two goals on eight shots and made two saves total.

Georgetown brings a familiar face back to Towson on Sunday. Former Tiger assistant and current Hoya assistant Win Puffer will be in the gray and blue for Georgetown. The Hoyas have a 1-0-1 mark after a trip to California to kick off 2014. Georgetown beat San Diego, 3-1, before drawing at 0-0 in double overtime against Long Beach State. The Hoyas face N.C. State on August 29 at home at 3 p.m. before traveling up to the Tiger Soccer Complex on Sunday. Going into the contest against the Wolfpack, Vanessa Skrumbis leads Georgetown with two goals, including a game winner. Daphne Corboz is tied for the team lead in points with one goal and two assists. Emma Newins is the Hoya goalkeeper. She has allowed one goal in 190:59 and made seven saves.
