BOX SCORE Villanova, Pa. - In their first meeting in 10 years, Towson (3-4-2) and Villanova (2-4-2) played to a scoreless draw Friday evening.
"We were on our heels for the first 20 minutes or so," said Head Coach
Greg Paynter. "But midway through the first half, we settled down and really started to control the flow and pace. In the second half, we really controlled the game, which was good to see. This was a good test for us against a quality team and great preparation for conference play."
Over the full 120 minutes, 10 different Tigers attempted at least one shot. Senior goalkeeper
Erin Quinn made nine saves on 17 Wildcat shots. Towson generated 15 corners to Villanova's six; nine of the Tigers' corner kicks occurred in the second half.
"Quinn and Nikki [Nicholas] were really big for us tonight," continued Paynter. "Quinn came up with some good saves when we needed them, and Nikki was a real offensive threat and played a big part in our attack."
The Tigers have the week off before returning to action in their first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matchup of the year - against James Madison on Friday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Complex.
