WILMINGTON, N.C. – A five-goal burst in the first help was too much to overcome for the Towson women's soccer team, which fell in its final road game of the regular season 8-0 at UNCW Sunday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game. The Seahawks scored another three goals in the second half at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
How it Happened- The Seahawks (12-5-1, 5-2-1 CAA) scored three times in rapid succession, as Katrina Guilou (22') and Maddie McCormick (26', 30') scored twice.
- UNCW scored another two goals from Kennedy Ulrich (32') and McCormick again on a penalty kick, taking a 5-0 lead into the break.
- Towson (6-7-4, 0-5-2 CAA) got five saves in the first half from Taylor Sebolao against 13 Seahawk attempts. Sebolao played the first 45 minutes before she was spelled for the second half by Emma Burnett.
- The Seahawks struck just over a minute into the fresh half on a Morgan Leyble goal. Leyble scored once more five minutes later. Meg Salvadore rounded out the day's scoring with a goal in the 75th minute.
- UNCW out-shot the Tigers 18-7, while Towson's keepers combined for six saves. Seahawk keeper Carolyn Huddy made four saves in her 90 minutes.
Behind the Numbers- Towson was shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since the opening two games of the season after drawing 0-0 with College of Charleston Friday night.
- Twenty-two players saw the field for the Tigers, with three of the seven total shots coming from substitutes.
Up Next for Towson- Towson returns home for the regular season finale on Friday and Sunday for a pair of CAA games against William & Mary and Elon.
- Friday's action against the Tribe is set for 2 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Complex, followed by Sunday's 1 p.m. tilt against the Phoenix.
Towson Head Coach Greg PaynterWe ran into a buzz saw. Anything that could go wrong went wrong. We didn't play well in the first half. UNCW benefitted from clinical finishing.
We just focus on getting better this week in preparation for William & Mary. We are still mathematically alive and need to prepare and play like that.
