TOWSON, Md. – The Towson defense allowed just 102 total yards of offense in a dominating 19-0 victory over rival Delaware Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
The 102 yards of offense is the fewest allowed to an FCS opponent since the Tigers joined the FCS in 1987.
How it Happened- The Tigers took the lead on their second possession of the game as they drove 52 yards before getting a 34-yard field goal off the foot of Sam Hurwitz.
- After the defense forced a punt, the Tigers drove 83 yards for their only touchdown of the game.
- Christian Summers was the main target on the drive as he caught three passes for 70 yards on the drive.
- Darius Victor capped the 10-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal.
- Connor Frazier led the offense on another scoring drive late in the half as he hit Summers for 30-yards down the seam.
- The play helped set up a Hurwitz 39-yard field goal as the first half expired.
- The second half was a defensive battle as the only points of the half came on a pair of Hurwitz field goals. The senior hit from 27-yards out in the third quarter, and from 39 yards in the fourth quarter.
- The Tigers defense forced two turnovers in the second half. One play after Delaware intercepted a pass, Zain Harps Upshur forced a fumble on a sack that was recovered by Eddie Releford.
- Safety Donnell Lewis sealed the shutout with an interception late in the fourth quarter.
Inside the Numbers- The shutout was the first for the Tigers since shutting out Lock Haven, 70-0, on September 10, 2005.
- The shutout was also the first against an FCS opponent since 20-0 victory over Monmouth on November 2, 2002. The previous low was 105 yards against Monmouth on October 28, 2000.
- The Tigers defense allowed 102 yards of offense. It is the fewest yards allowed to an FCS opponent since joining the FCS in 1987.
- The defense surrendered 51 yards in each half. They gave up only 11 yards in the fourth quarter.
- Sam Hurwitz tied a school record with four field goals. He ties the record that was set by Jerome Nolan against C.W. Post on September 29, 1984.
- Connor Frazier threw for a career-best 284 yards in the victory. He finished 25-of-34, while also rushing 12 times for 26 yards.
- Sophomore Marquel Dickerson had his first career 100-yard game as he ran 20 times for 102 yards.
- Christian Summers had a career day as he hauled in eight passes for 133 yards.
- Darius Victor's second-quarter touchdown was his 10th of the season.
- The Tigers defense forced two turnovers in the victory. They have now forced two turnovers in each of the past three games.
- Donnell Lewis led the defensive effort with nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and an interception.
- Zain Harps Upshur posted six tackles, two forced fumbles and a sack.
