Series History: Hofstra leads the all-time series with the Tigers 41-12. Towson snapped a four-match losing streak to the Pride with a 3-1 victory when the two squads met in Towson last year.
Sunday's contest will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Tigers and Huskies. Northeastern leads the series, 19-12. However, the Tigers swept the season series last year and now have won three of the last five meetings.
I'm Honored: A pair of Tigers took home weekly honors from the CAA on Monday. Junior
Lindsay Flaherty was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Week while freshman
Jocelyn Kuilan took home CAA Rookie of the Week accolades. It is the first time since Nov. 12, 2012 that the Tigers have had two players honored in the same week (
Katy Buck and
Alysha McCreary). Flaherty was honored for the first time in her career after leading the team with 15 blocks (1.88 per set) and notched a career-high nine blocks on Friday against the Tribe. Along with her block totals, the junior added 14 kills and hit a stellar .357 percent with six digs. Kuilan paced the squad with 30 kills (13 against William & Mary, 17 versus Elon) for a 3.75 per-set average and a .297 hitting clip. On top of her attack numbers, Kuilan, now a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week honoree this fall, added three service aces, 10 digs, three blocks in all.
Welcome to the Block Party: Towson used a big presence at the net to secure the win at William & Mary on Friday night. The Tigers recorded a season-high 11.5 team blocks against the Tribe while junior
Lindsay Flaherty posted a career-high nine blocks. Towson is 3-0 this season when it posts 10 or more blocks in match. The 11.5 team blocks against the Tribe were the most team blocks since the Tigers had 14 against James Madison last year in the CAA Tournament. Towson is 14-4 all-time under head coach
Don Metil when it posts 10 or more team blocks in a match.
Aces for Autism: For the second straight season, the Tigers will do their part to raise funds and awareness for a good cause with their "Aces for Autism" program. Fans can make pledges either in a flat amount using the donation boxes found on the mezzanine level in SECU Arena or take the TU Team Challenge and pledge per Towson's Kill, Block, Dig, Assist, or Ace season totals. Fans' donations to this event will go toward the organization of their choice, or fans can allow the volleyball team to allocate the funds to the autism organization of its choice.
Up Next: Following this weekend's action, the Tigers head back on the road for two key CAA matches at UNC Wilmington and College of Charleston. Towson returns to SECU Arena to start a five-match homestand against Delaware on Oct. 21.
