Towson Rolls Past UMBC To Take King of Baltimore Throne

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team unleashed a relentless and ruthless assault during a 91-65 victory over UMBC Wednesday afternoon at SECU Arena that left no doubt as its status as the kingpins of Baltimore collegiate basketball.
 
In addition to sweeping all four of Baltimore's Division I schools, the victory was also significant for Towson as it finished the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 9-4 record. It's the best mark after 13 games since Towson became a Division I program in the 1979-80 season.
 
How It Happened
  • Towson placed four players in double figures scoring for the sixth time this season.
  • Every Tiger hit the scoring column for the second consecutive game.
  • The Tigers shot a season best 57.6 percent (34-for-59) from the field.
  • Towson shot 56.3 percent (18-for-32) in the opening 20 minutes to lead, 47-26 at halftime.
  • Towson ended the first half by making seven of its last eight field goal attempts.
  • The Tigers used a 17-3 run over a five minute, 28 second stretch of the first half to take control.
  • Towson held UMBC without a field goal for 9:10 of the first half.
  • Jairus Lyles scored 10 consecutive points for UMBC to help the Retrievers tie Towson, 13-13 with 12:58 remaining in the first half.
  • Walter Foster scored four straight points to give Towson the lead for good, 17-13.
  • Mike Morsell scored five points during a 7-0 run to help Towson open a 22-15 lead with 8:49 remaining in the first half.
  • Parker-Rivera and Alex Foster took charges during the game.
  • William Adala Moto posterized a pair of UMBC defenders with a vicious two-handed dunk that gave Towson a 78-54 lead with five minutes remaining.
