LOS ANGELES, Calif. – USC left hander Kyle Twomey held Towson to just two hits over seven shutout innings as the Trojans won for the second-straight night, 10-0, at Dedeaux Field.
The Trojans (2-0) once again got going in the first inning as they pushed across a pair of runs on an RBI fielder's choice and a single up the middle from Blake Lacey.
The lead would double in the second inning after a pair of two-out fielding errors helped push across two runs. Tiger starter
Kevin Ross (0-1) retired the first two hitters in the third before issuing a four-pitch walk. That would help to end his day as a double to left from AJ Ramirez scored the run.
Ross took the loss after giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits and one strikeout.
USC added three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the eighth to reach double digits for the second day in a row.
The Tigers (0-2) got their first hit of the game in the fourth inning as
Brendan Butler singled to right center to start the inning. He would steal second with two outs, but a strikeout ended the inning and the threat.
Towson had its best scoring chance in the eighth inning as
Chris Ruszin was hit by a pitch and went to second on a balk.
Richie Blosser singled off the leg of the pitcher to put runners on the corners with one out, but a 5-4-3 double play ended the inning.
The two teams will close out the three-game series Sunday at 4 p.m.
