BALTIMORE, Md. -- Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) All-Rookie selection
Mike Morsell scored 18 points and junior
Four McGlynn came alive late, but Towson (12-20) dropped an overtime heartbreaker, 74-69, to Elon (15-17) in the first round of the CAA Tournament at Royal Farms Arena on Friday night.
Morsell was just one point off his career high, but the freshman dealt with foul trouble for most of the game before eventually fouling out in overtime. Junior
Four McGlynn scored all seven of Towson's points in overtime while finishing with 13 points. Junior
Timajh Parker-Rivera was also in double figures with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Trailing 62-59 with 1:25 remaining in regulation, the Tigers scored the final three points of the game. Sophomore
John Davis hit a free throw to pull Towson within two and then McGlynn drew a foul and hit both free throws to tie the game with 19 seconds remaining.
Elon's Austin Hamilton missed a jumper at the buzzer to send the game into the extra session.
After a pair of McGlynn free throws tied the game 64-64, Elon's Tanner Samson and Hamilton hit consecutive three's to give the Phoenix a 70-64 lead.
The Tigers didn't go away though as McGlynn converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to three. Trailing 70-67, Towson regained possession, but a turnover led to a breakaway dunk by Elon's Kevin Blake. McGlynn made a lay-up on Towson's next possession to make it 72-69, but the Tigers would get no closer.
Morsell got the Tigers offense going with a driving layup in the opening minutes. The two teams would exchange baskets over the first five minutes and after Morsell knocked in a corner three, the game was tied for the third time.

The Phoenix would extend their first-half lead to as many as six points before the Tigers battled back to tie the game with 4:15 left on an
A.J. Astroth basket.
Â
Towson looked to take a lead into the locker room, but an Astroth put back at the buzzer was waived off after a review.
