NEWARK, Del. – The Towson University softball team concluded the regular season with a 5-2 victory over Delaware on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers secured a spot in the four-team Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament after winning two of three games against the Blue Hens this weekend.

Towson improved to 35-20 overall and 10-11 in CAA play with the win. The 35 wins this season are the most by a Tiger squad since Towson went 37-26 during the 2008 season.

The Tigers got their offense working early in the game, scoring all five runs over the first four innings. Freshman
Brook Miko used a double to left center before coming home on a single by senior
Missy McCormick.

The Blue Hens answered back with a home run by Mariah Kondravy in the first to tie the game. Delaware used a single and a double to score Morgan Schroll in the second inning.

Towson retook the lead with a three-run third inning. Junior
Olivia Yarbrough reached on a fielding error by the Blue Hens' Heather Oakley before advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman
Kendyl Scott. The Tigers used back-to-back-to-back doubles to take a 4-2 lead over the Blue Hens. Miko doubled to score Yarbrough before coming home on a double by McCormick. Freshman
Shelby Stracher drove in McCormick with her double to left center.

The Tigers added another run in the fourth inning as Edwards led off with a single to center field. Yarbrough reached for the second time on a fielding error by Oakley that advanced Edwards to second. Scott bunted to load the bases before Miko was hit by a pitch and Edwards scored as the Tigers moved bases.

McCormick and the Tiger defense held the Blue Hens scoreless for the final five innings.

Miko had a game-high two runs scored and was a perfect three-for-three at the plate, including two doubles.

McCormick (19-6) threw two three-up-three-down innings and tallied two strikeouts during the game. She gave up just two runs over 7.0 innings and did not walk a batter in 27 at-bats.

Kiersten Coffman (4-4) recorded the loss for the Blue Hens, giving up four runs and five hits over 2.2 innings. Carolyn Szymanski came in on relief action (0.1 innings) and gave up the final run of the game. Jordan Cargile pitched the final 4.0 frames and recorded Delaware's only strikeout of the game.

The Tigers will play in the CAA Tournament from May 6-8 in Harrisonburg, Va. The top-two seeds have been determined as the host James Madison clinched the top spot, followed by Hofstra.
