LEWISBURG, Pa. – Withstanding a barrage of shots, the Towson Tigers women's soccer team fell1-0 in the 2015 season opener at Bucknell University. The Tigers (0-1-0) got double-digit stops from
Taylor Sebolao at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium, seeing 16 Bison shots Friday night.
- - Making her first career start, Sebolao punched away a dangerous Bison shot in the 16th minute.
- - Erin Kelly had Towson's best chance of the first half, but Jessica Ratner made a punching save, which tipped off the cross bar in the 27th minute.
- - The Bison (1-0-0) challenged in the 34th minute as Kendall Ham crossed a ball across the goal mouth, but Sarah Bursette narrowly missed the header chance.
- - Bucknell scored what appeared to be a goal from Danielle Piccirilli but a Bison was called offside in the 55th minute.
- - Talia Szatkowski challenged in the 76th minute but Sebolao made the save at the post to keep it scoreless.
- - Bucknell had a second goal waved off for offsides in the 82nd minute after a set piece.
- - The Bison broke the deadlock in the 86th minute on a Cora Climo goal from Devan Schulte from the right side.
- - Sebolao finished with 10 saves, the first Tiger with double-digit stops since Oct. 19, 2014.
- - Bucknell out-shot Towson 16-4 and took 12 corner kicks against two from the Tigers.
- - Vasthy Delgado was booked for a yellow after a hard tackle in the 53rd minute. Marissa Green was carded in the 66th minute.
"We came into the game with some question marks, some of them were answered in a positive way, like Taylor (Sebolao) stepping up with a first class performance," said Tiger head coach
Greg Paynter, who began his ninth season as the headman at Towson. "But we leave tonight with some unanswered questions still. We got outplayed oi most facets. We need to regroup and get ready for St. John's on Sunday."
The Tigers continue action on Sunday for a nonconference game at St. John's University. The Tigers and Red Storm square off at 7:30 p.m. in Queens, New York at Belson Stadium.
