COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Trailing 2-1 in the match and 16-9 in the fourth set, the Towson University volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win over the University of Idaho on Friday evening in the Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by Tennessee Tech. Four Tigers recorded double digit kills as Towson (12-1) ran its win streak to 12 straight matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED- With the two squads tied at 9-9, the Tigers used a 9-2 run to take an 18-11 lead in the first set. Junior Jessica Lewis had three kills and a block assist during that stretch. A kill from freshman Jocelyn Kuilan extended the Towson advantage to 22-18. However a kill from Katelyn Peterson on the next play started a 7-1 run that gave Idaho a 25-23 first set victory. Peterson and Sarah Sharp each had a pair of kills during the run.
- Despite losing the set, Towson hit .308 to Idaho's (2-9) .250. Kuilan had seven first set kills for the Tigers while Peterson had four kills and four digs.
- Trailing 5-4 in the second set, the Tigers scored five straight points to take a 9-5 lead. Sophomore Julymar Otero recorded back-to-back kills during that stretch. Another 5-0 run pushed the Towson advantage to 19-9. A pair of kills from Otero gave Towson a 22-13 lead in the set. A kill from Kuilan closed out a 25-19 set win for the Tigers and tied the match at 1-1.
- Towson hit .452 in the set as Otero had seven kills on eight attempts and hit .875.
- Idaho used a 6-2 run to break a 12-12 tie in the third set and take an 18-14 lead. Becca Mau had a pair of kills for the Vandals during that stretch. The two sides continued to battle as a kill from Sharp put Idaho ahead 23-19. Laine Waters recorded a kill to give Idaho a 25-20 set win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Mau and Sharp combined for seven of the Vandals' 13 kills in the set.
- Towson called timeout in the fourth set after a kill from Peterson gave Idaho a 16-9 lead. The Tigers responded with a 6-0 run that pulled Towson to within one, 16-15. Kuilan had a pair of kills and a pair of block assists during that stretch for the Tigers. The two teams traded points before a kill from senior Haley Pa'akaula tied the set at 18-18. A kill from Otero gave Towson a 22-19 advantage. A kill from Kuilan sealed a 25-22 set win for the Tigers and sent the match to a fifth set.
- Towson hit .364 in the set as redshirt senior Aimee Schubert dished out six assists to go with seven digs.
- The two teams battled through seven ties and two lead changes in the fifth and decisive set. Trailing 8-7, Towson used an 8-2 run to claim a 15-10 win in the set and completed the comeback. Pa'akaula and Kuilan each had two kills during that key run.
- Towson hit .348 in the fifth set as Pa'akaula, Lewis and Kuilan each recorded three kills.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE- Schubert, Lewis and senior Kyana Miller all posted double-double performances in the match. Schubert had 39 assists and 19 digs for her second double-double of the year. Lewis contributed 16 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the year. Miller added 27 assists and 10 digs for her second double-double of the year.
- Kuilan led all players with a season-high 27 kills. Her 27 kills are tied for seventh in single-match history at Towson.
- Lewis has posted double digit kills in four straight matches.
The Tigers finish out the Golden Eagle Invitational when they face Western Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. (EST).
