Tigers Open CAA Play at James Madison on Wednesday Night

Hitting the Road Again: The Tigers continue their 13-match road trip this weekend as they begin Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. Towson visits James Madison on Wednesday, Sept. 23 before traveling to Delaware on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Tiger Tracks: The Tigers kept their win streak intact with three wins to capture the Tennessee Tech Tournament. Towson, which has won 13 straight matches, got 64 kills from tournament MVP Jocelyn Kuilan. Kuilan leads the squad on the season with 197 kills, a .359 hitting percentage, 19 service aces and 39 digs. Senior Haley Pa'akaula is second on the squad with 184 kills and 160 digs. Seniors Aimee Schubert and Kyana Miller have split setting duties and have recorded 382 and 274 assists respectively. Redshirt freshman Anna Holehouse anchors the defensive efforts with 240 digs while junior Lindsay Flaherty has 40 blocks.

Scouting the Opponents: James Madison enters the match riding a three-match win streak. The Dukes most recently captured the JMU Invitational. CAA Offensive Player of the Week Janey Goodman leads the team with 172 kills and 120 digs while CAA Defensive Player of the Week Taylor Austin has 241 digs. Sarah Patterson runs the offense with 432 assists.

Series History: The Tigers and Dukes are meeting for the 49th time. The two teams have split the all-time series 24-24. Towson had won three straight before falling to James Madison 3-2 last year in the CAA Tournament.

I'm Honored: Freshman Jocelyn Kuilan continues to impress for the Tigers. The Puerto Rico native earned Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week accolades on Monday. It was the second time this season Kuilan was honored. Kuilan, who was named the MVP of the Tennessee Tech Tournament posted 64 kills and an impressive .477 hitting percentage in the three matches. Kuilan posted a career/season-high 27 kills in the 3-2 win over Idaho. The 27 kills are tied for seventh most in single-match history. On the season, Kuilan leads the squad with 197 kills, averaging 3.72 per set. She has posted a .359 hitting percentage while contributing 19 service aces, 39 digs and 24 blocks. Kuilan currently ranks third in the CAA in kills per set, fourth for hitting percentage, fourth in service aces per set and third in points per set.

Let's Go Streaking: The win over Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon not only gave the Tigers a sweep of the Tennessee Tech Tournament action but extended the team's win streak to 13 straight matches. That ties the 1993 squad for the fourth longest win streak in school history. The Tigers are currently tied with San Francisco for the second longest current win streak in the nation. The longest win streak in school history belongs to the 2003 squad that ran off 19 straight victories. In between that team and the current squad is the 2012 team that won 18 straight and the 2001 Tigers who won 16 straight matches.

This One Counts: The real test begins for the Tigers as Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action gets underway Wednesday night. The Tigers are 10-3 in CAA openers since joining the conference for the 2002 season. Towson is 2-2 when playing its CAA opener on the road and 2-0 when facing James Madison in the CAA opener.

Can I Help You With That: The Towson setters have done a solid job of running the offense this season. Entering play this week, the Tigers ranked fourth in the nation in both team assists (732) and assists per set (13.81). Redshirt senior Aimee Schubert ranks fifth in the CAA while averaging 7.21 assists per set. Fellow senior Kyana Miller is ninth while averaging 5.17 helpers per set.

Up Next: Towson travels to Delaware on Sunday afternoon before wrapping up its 13 match road trip with visits to William & Mary (Oct. 2) and Elon (Oct. 4).
