Tigers Welcome Elon for Monday Night Match

Wrapping up a Busy Stretch: The Tigers wrap up a busy stretch that saw them play three matches in four days with a rare Monday night match. Towson hosts Elon on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in SECU Arena. Links to live stats and video feed can be found on the schedule page of TowsonTigers.com. Fans can also follow the Tigers on Twitter (@Towson_VB) for updates.

Looking at the Tigers: Towson went 1-1 over the weekend, dropping a five-set heartbreaker to College of Charleston before bouncing back to defeat UNCW 3-1. Senior Jessica Lewis and freshman Marrisa Wonders each posted back-to-back double-doubles to lead the Tigers. Lewis powers the Tiger offense with 268 kills, 186 digs, 17 service aces and a .305 hitting percentage. Sophomore Jocelyn Kuilan is contributing 185 kills, 25 blocks and 17 service aces on the season. Wonders has dished out 452 helpers this season. Redshirt sophomore Anna Holehouse anchors the backline with 219 digs while senior Lindsay Flaherty has a team-high 64 blocks.

Scouting the Opponent: Elon battled for a 3-2 win over Delaware on Saturday night and improved to 15-4 overall and 2-1 in CAA play. Sydney Busa had 25 kills and 17 digs in the win over the Blue Hens. Kam Terry leads the Phoenix with 230 kills, 154 digs and 34 blocks. Sydel Curry has handed out 583 assists while Maddie Jaudon has 280 digs.

Series History: Monday's contest will be the seventh meeting all-time between the Tigers and the Phoenix. Towson leads the series 5-1 after posting a sweep of the season series last year.

Faculty and Staff Appreciation: Monday's match is Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. All Towson faculty and staff can receive up to four complimentary tickets to the match.

Seeing Double: Four Tigers recorded a double-double in the win over UNCW. Senior Jessica Lewis finished with 15 kills and 12 digs for her fourth straight double-double and ninth of the year. Freshman Marrisa Wonders recorded 28 assists and 11 digs for her fourth straight double-double and team leading 10th of the season. Sophomore Jocelyn Kuilan contributed 11 kills and 11 digs for her third double-double of the year. Sophomore Carola Biver posted 10 kills and 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Welcome to the Block Party: Seniors Lindsay Flaherty continues to provide the Tigers with a serious blocking threat at the net. Last year Flaherty recorded the 300th block of her career, becoming the 10th player in program history to reach that mark. Flaherty has 64 blocks in 63 sets played this season. Flaherty enters play this weekend needing just 13 more blocks to move into the top five for career blocks at Towson. She would also become the sixth player in program history to record over 400 blocks in her career.

Defense at the Net: One of the keys to success for the Tigers this season has been their ability to limit opponents' success at the net. The Tigers are holding opponents to a .108 hitting percentage this season. Towson held UNCW to an .092 hitting percentage on Saturday night. It was the 14th time this season, the Tigers have held an opponent to an under .200 hitting percentage and the eighth time the Tigers held an opponent to an under .100 hitting percentage. Towson leads the CAA and as of Friday morning ranked third in this category.

Up Next: Following Monday's match, the Tigers hit the road to visit Hofstra and Northeastern. The Tigers return to SECU Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 11 when they host Delaware State at 6 p.m.
