Saunderson Sets Pool Record at UMBC

CATONSVILLE, Md. – Jack Saunderson broke the pool record with a time of 48.98 in the 100-yard butterfly as the Towson University men's swimming and diving team fell at local rival UMBC, 152-126 on Saturday afternoon. Saunderson's time broke the previous pool record of 49.04 which was set in 2009.

How it Happened (Diving)
  • John Casey had a strong performance on the diving boards, winning the three-meter with 175.35 points. He placed fourth in the one-meter event, recording a personal best 171.15 points.

How it Happened (Swimming)
  • Saunderson led the Tigers efforts in the pool as he captured both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. Saunderson set the pool record in the 100-yard butterfly and captured the 200-yard event in 1:52.18.
  • The Tigers took the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle as both Will Dougherty and Evan Brophy recorded personal bests. Dougherty touched the wall in 4:36.92 while Brophy was just behind him with a time of 4:44.65. Aaron Magazine finished third with a time of 4:47.69.
  • Dougherty and Hunter Wright finished second and third in the 1000-yard freestyle. Dougherty posted a time of 9:38.77 while Wright finished in 9:44.58.
  • Saunderson was not the only Tiger to finish strong in the 100-yard butterfly. Spencer Franklin took second with a time of 54.37 and Richard Keller touched the wall in 54.92 for third place.
  • The Tigers took the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley. Stefan Keller finished first with a time of 1:58.10 while Dominic Breschi touched second with a time of 1:58.21. Noah Pritchard rounded out the top three with a time of 2:00.39.
  • Towson took the top two spots in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Wright, Brandon Ress, Nick Essing and Dougherty finished in 2:13.30 while Brophy, Owen Robinson, Matthew Kenney and Zach Bishop touched the wall in 3:19.68.
