Tigers Fall at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – The 2016 season continued to be a tough go for the Towson University football team as the Tigers fell 20-6 at Delaware Saturday afternoon.
 
How It Happened
  • The first quarter was a defensive battle as the teams combined for just 68 yards of offense.
  • The Tigers were able to get on the board on their first drive of the second quarter as they drove 80 yards on nine plays. 
  • Ellis Knudson got the drive going by hitting Christian Summers down the left sideline for 47 yards on the first play of the drive.
  • The drive would stall inside the 10 yard line, and Aidan O'Neill converted on a 27-yard field goal.
  • The Blue Hens answered back on their next drive as a double pass resulted in a 21-yard touchdown pass.
  • An interception late in the second quarter set up a short field for the Blue Hens and it resulted in a 30-yard field goal.
  • Towson opened the second half with an 11-play drive that started with a 14-yard run by Deshaun Wethington
  • After a pass interference call in the endzone set up the offense inside the five, the Tigers were forced to settle for a 21-yard O'Neil field goal.
  • UD added a field goal in the third quarter before putting the game away with a 62-yard drive in the fourth quarter.
 
Inside The Numbers
  • The Towson defense held the Blue Hens to just 65 yards passing.
  • Deshaun Wethington led the offense with 32 yards on seven carries.
  • Shane Simpson rushed for 22 yards, while returning three kickoffs for 88 yards.
  • Monty Fenner led the defense with 11 tackles.
  • Bryton Barr added eight tackles and forced a fumble.
 
Up Next
The Tigers return to Unitas Stadium to take on Elon on Nov. 5 at 2 p.m.  The game is Military Appreciation game.
