Johnson Scores as Tigers Fall in Season Finale at Northeastern

DEDHAM, Mass. – Despite Jenna Johnson scoring her first career goal, the Towson University field hockey team dropped a 7-1 decision to Northeastern on Sunday in the final game on the 2016 season.
 
Northeastern (8-10, 2-4 CAA) used six penalty corner goals to defeat Towson (2-17, 0-6 CAA).

How it Happened
  • Boyle made two early saves for Towson but Northeastern finally got one past the Tiger defense in the sixth minute as Jamie Bartucca scored from Axelle Dewamme.
  • Northeastern added four penalty corner goals to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Dewamme scored in the 16th minute, followed by Kristin Abreu in the 27th minute and Laura Maclachlan two minutes later. Natalie Stewart earned the assist on all three goals while June Curry-Lindahl had a secondary assist on the Abreu goal. With 30 seconds left in the first half, Kellie Stigas converted a penalty corner chance, assisted by Hannah Wein and Dewamme.
  • Towson came out strong in the second half as Jenna Johnson scored her first career goal unassisted in the 46th minute. Towson followed that up with back to back shots on goal, the first by Morgan Lowry forcing Becky Garner to make a save. Nine seconds later, Korena Shaw had a scoring chance that went wide.
  • Northeastern scored on another penalty corner chance in the 57th minute to regain its five goal lead as Stewart scored from Maclachlan. The Huskies added another penalty corner goal in the 65th minute as Maclachlan scored from Stewart and Dewamme.
  • Sabrina Davis gave Towson its final offensive push as her shot in the 67th minute was denied by Garner.
 
Behind the Numbers
  • The Huskies outshot Towson 20-0 in the first half and had nine penalty corner chances, scoring on four of them.
  • Northeastern added 11 shots in the second half to hold a 31-4 final shot advantage. The Huskies held a final 13-0 advantage in penalty corners, converting six of those chances.
  • Towson had four players take shots against the Huskies with Johnson scoring on her chance and Northeastern's goalie making two saves.
  • Megan Boyle made nine first half saves for Towson. She added six in the second half to finish the game with 15. The game was her third double-digit performance of the season and ninth of her career.
  • Johnson scored her first career goal for the Tigers. She is one of seven Tigers this season to record a goal and one of eight to post a point.
  • The game was the 20th meeting between Towson and Northeastern. The Huskies hold a 17-4 advantage in the series with today's win.
