Late Rally Not Enough Against Seawolves

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team had its fourth down pass fall incomplete with just under two minutes to play in the Tigers 27-20 loss to Stony Brook Saturday evening at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

How it Happened
  • After an Aidan O'Neill field goal brought Towson within 27-20 with 3:44 left to play, the Seawolves fumbled the ensuing kickoff.  Keon Paye fell on the ball, setting up the Tigers at the SBU 28 yard line.
  • The Tigers offense ran the ball three times, setting up a 4th-and-9.  The fourth-down pass was broken up, turning the ball over on downs.
  • The Seawolves got on the board first as Stacey Bedell capped an 11-play drive with a three-yard touchdown run.
  • The Tigers answered back on their next possession with a six-play drive that culminated with a 14 yard scoring strike from Ellis Knudson to Andre Dessenberg
  • The defense would shut the Seawolves out in the second quarter, allowing the Tigers to take the lead midway through with a 23-yard field goal from Aidan O'Neill.
  • After forcing a three-and-out on the next drive, Knudson hit Sam Gallahan for 11 yards at midfield.
  • Shane Simpson, making his first career start, rattled off a 31-yard run to set up a first and goal.
  • Three plays later, Knudson hit Tanner Vallely in the back of the endzone for a two yard touchdown.
  • SBU scored the only touchdown of the third quarter, then took advantage of a later turnover to score what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown with 5:50 remaining.
