Towson's Road Show Visits Morgan State

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team will take its shortest excursion of the season, a mere 11-minute ride up York Road and on Coldspring Lane to face Morgan State University.

Gotta love a trip that's easy on gas.

The Tigers will look to transform another fired-up throng into a forlorn flock like they did in their season-opening, 67-61 win over George Mason last Saturday. While EagleBank Arena had its frenzied fans rocking to the hype-anthem "Zombie Nation", it will be nothing like the Hill Field House experience, an abode where the Bears are 77-36 (.631) under 10th year head Todd Bozeman.

Towson will have its hands full against the talented Bears, who will be pumped playing their home opener. Morgan State's cozy and sauna-like facility will be pulsating with energy, vibrating like a Metallica concert, and throbbing with enough noise to rival an artillery battery.

Sporting the latest fashions, Morgan State's sonorous student body is so close to the action that you can smell their expensive Angel perfume or Burberry cologne as they walk to their seats. The earsplitting headache-o-meter will be set to quadruple-migraine levels for Towson's visit.

In other words, it'll be an awesome atmosphere for a college basketball game between schools that share the Hip Hop Chicken and IHOP restaurants on Goucher Road.

The Tigers have plenty of suffocating silencers who know how to pull the plug on a festive atmosphere. In their win over George Mason, two of them, senior Arnuad William Adala Moto and junior Mike Morsell combined for 43 points.

Open Mic
Morsell on playing at Morgan State
"It's always fun playing in that environment because it's an intense atmosphere with a high energy level from the fans, players, and coaches."

A Look At Morgan State
Morgan State dropped its season opener to Houston on the road, 93-52 Friday night. MSU guard Tiwian Kendley led the Bears with 18 points, while 2016 Preseason All-MEAC Second Team selection Phillip Carr finished with 16 points and tied with center Alex Ennis for team-high honors with seven rebounds. Kendley, a JUCO transfer, was the leading scorer at Lamar Community College in back to back seasons and a Second Team All-Region selection. Morgan State finished the night by converting 79.2 percent (19-24) from the free throw line, but hit just 15-of-50 (30 percent) from the field. Houston shot 52.2 percent (36-69) and was 11-of-28 (39.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

On the Air
Today's game can be heard live on CBS Sports Radio 1300.  Spiro Morekas will provide the play-by-play. There will be no live stats or live video due to networking issues inside of Hill Field House.

George Mason Leftovers
  • Towson's defense held George Mason without a field goal for the final 3:26 of the game.
  • Sophomore Alex Thomas, who made his first career start, grabbed a career best six rebounds in 26 minutes.
  • Nine of the 10 Towson players who saw action grabbed at least one rebound.
  • Adala Moto scored all 16 points after intermission in the final 10:42.
  • Adala Moto also scored eight of Towson's last nine points over the last 3:20.

Inside Morsell's Relentless Rebounding
Morsell finished a rebound shy of a double-double (21 points, nine rebounds). Most impressive about Morsell's effort was he turned four of his five of his offensive rebounds into eight points. His first two baskets of the season came off of offensive rebounds. Morsell scored eight of Towson's 15 second-chance points.

20-20 Vision
Adala Moto (22 points) and Morsell (21) combined for 43 points against George Mason. They became the first Tigers to score 20 or more points in the same game since last Jan. 30, 2016 against Delaware when Morsell scored 24 points and John Davis contributed 21 points.

Maryland State Champs
Over the last three seasons, Towson is 12-1 against schools in the state of Maryland. Towson has won four consecutive games against Maryland opponents.

Up Next
Towson continues its four-game road trip by visiting 25th-ranked Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Comcast Center. The game begins at 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3. It will be the first meeting between the Terps and Tigers since Nov. 30, 1996, a 93-76 Maryland win. This game will be part of the Barclays Classic.
