TOWSON, Md. –
John Davis couldn't stand the thought of ending his terrific Towson University men's basketball career with another loss to Fairleigh Dickinson.
Davis and the Tigers have dropped a pair of one-point decisions to the Knights in each of the last two years. Each setback more painful than the other. Davis didn't want to experience that feeling again so he went out and did something about it.
Playing with tenacity and determination, the senior forward finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds to help Towson rally from a 10-point halftime deficit and defeat FDU, 90-87, in an intense non-conference affair Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena.
"I had a high energy level today," Davis said. "I was focused on getting things off the glass and let everything come to me. This game was really personal for me today especially since they've beaten us the last two years. Today, I wanted to make sure I was ultra-aggressive with whatever I was doing whether it was rebounding or playing defense."
In notching his fourth double-double of the season and the 19th of his career double-double, Davis concluded a fantastic homestand in which he averaged 13.8 points and 8.0 rebounds. He scored in double figures in every game and had three double-doubles during the Tigers 4-2 homestand.
In addition to Davis,
Mike Morsell had 18 points along with six rebounds and a season-best five assists.
Eddie Keith II had a season-high 13 points.
Arnaud William Adala Moto finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
Alex Thomas reached double digits for the second straight game with 11 points.
"Since the Boston College game, he's really brought into being a leader and doing whatever we've asked him to do," Towson head coach
Pat Skerry said of Davis. "It's showing. His motor, toughness and grit. He's playing at a really high level the last six games and he's a weapon. He's back to where we all know he can be."
