TOWSON, Md. – Senior forward
John Davis scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his 20th career double-double, but it wasn't enough as the Towson University men's basketball team dropped a 76-67 decision to UNCW in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener at SECU Arena Saturday afternoon.
Davis was 8-for-10 from the field and also led the Tigers with three assists. Three of his 20 career double-doubles have been against UNCW. This was Davis' fifth double-double this season as he finished a rebound shy of tying his career high.
During the game, Davis also became the 10th Towson men's basketball player in program history with at least 600 rebounds. He has 613 career caroms.

How It Happened
- In addition to Davis, also reaching double figures for Towson were junior guards Mike Morsell (14 points) and Deshaun Morman (11).
- Trailing 32-31 at intermission, Arnaud William Adala Moto gave Towson its final lead of the game, 33-32 26 seconds into the second half.
- UNCW, the reigning CAA Tournament champion and preseason conference favorite, gained control of the contest with a 16-6 run to open a 48-39 lead with 13:22 remaining.
- Towson got as close as five points on two different occasions in the second half, 52-47 with 11:37 left following a Zane Martin layup and 56-51 with 8:52 left after a Morsell 3-pointer.
- UNCW was 15-for-30 shooting and Towson made 13-of-26 shots in the second half.
- The difference in the game was that the Seahawks also made seven of their 10 3-pointers after intermission.
- Towson made one triple and was 9-for-16 from the foul line after intermission.
- Morman scored seven of Towson's first 10 points.
- Morsell gave Towson its first lead of the game, 17-16, with 10;46 left in the first half following a 3-pointer.
- Morsell, who scored 10 points in the first half, was 2-for-2 from 3-point distance in the opening half.
