DELAND, FLA. – The No. 18 Towson University women's lacrosse team jumped out to an 11-1 halftime lead and rolled to a 17-3 victory at Stetson University on Friday night. Nine Tigers scored as Towson improved to 6-0 on the season, which marks the best start in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED- The Tigers got on the board first as redshirt junior midfielder Michelle Gildea scored on a free position shot at 27:05.
- Towson scored three goals in 31 seconds and took a 4-0 lead with 25:04 to go in the half. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano had a goal and an assist during that stretch.
- The Tigers pushed their lead to 6-0 with 23:14 to go in the stanza on goals from Montalbano, her second of the game, and freshman midfielder Katie Sciandra.
- Stetson finally ended the Tiger scoring streak with a goal from Lindsay Summers at 16:52.
- Towson closed the first half on a 5-0 run and took an 11-1 advantage at the half. That run to close the half featured a pair of goals from freshman midfielder Natalie Sulmonte and the second goal of the game from senior midfielder Breanna Hamm and freshman attacker Carly Tellekamp.
- The Tigers picked up where they left off in the second half. Towson opened the second stanza on a 5-0 run. Tellekamp scored two during that run while redshirt junior attacker Alyssa Ferro scored her first goal of the season.
- Stetson (3-3) halted the Tiger run with a goal from Hallie Merz with 13:21 to play.
- Towson was not done though as Sciandra scored her second of the day with 7:45 left on the clock.
- Summers' second goal of the day for Stetson made the final score 17-3 in favor of the Tigers.
QUOTABLE- "It was great to come out here and play Stetson," said Towson head coach Sonia LaMonica. "Stetson played hard to the final whistle and it kept us working hard. I was really pleased with how focused we were and that they kept playing hard. It was also great to get some people, who don't always get time out there."
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE- The Tigers' 6-0 start to the season is the best start in program history. The previous record to start a season was 5-0, set by the 1992 team and matched by the 2005.
- The 17 goals scored by the Tigers was the most goals scored since Towson scored 20 at William & Mary last April
- Towson took a season-high 40 shots while holding Stetson to just 11 shots.
- All three Tiger goalies saw time in the game. Freshman Angie Benson played the first half and made two saves to earn the win goal. Senior Alyssa Saxon also had a save in relief. Whitney Meyers made 13 saves for Stetson in the loss.
- Montalbano matched her career-high with six points in the game (three goals and a career-high three assists). She also added five ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
- Tellekamp had a career-high four goals while Hamm, Sulmonte and Sciandra all added two goals. Hamm added three draw controls and a caused turnover. Sulmonte had three ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
- The Tigers dominated the draw control battle, winning 18 of a possible 22 in the game.
The Tigers are back in action on Monday, March 14 when they travel to No. 2 Florida for a 6:30 p.m. game.
