Catanzaro To Be Featured on American Ninja Warrior Tonight

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University gymnastics alumna Kacy Catanzaro is back in action as American Ninja Warrior airs on Monday night at 8 p.m. EST on NBC. Catanzaro hits the course in the qualifying show from Oklahoma City, the fourth of five qualifying cities.

The show, which is in its eighth season, follows competitors as they tackle a series of challenging obstacle courses in both city qualifying and city finals rounds around the country. A competitor who successfully completes a city finals course moves on to the national finals round in Las Vegas. The show's finals feature a four-stage course modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama course in Japan.

Two years ago Catanzaro made history as the first woman to conquer the show's 14-foot warped wall. The feat seemed impossible as Catanzaro stands at just five-feet fall and an even 100 pounds. She also became the first woman to complete a city finals course that year.

Catanzaro will be tested on Monday night as American Ninja Warrior has added several new obstacles to the course. Among the obstacles on Monday night will be the log runner, which features five logs that spin and increase in height across the distance. She will also face the bar hop, which requires contestants to jump to a bar and then propel themselves across a three foot gap to the next hook. The show's famed warped wall, has been raised an additional six inches, making it 14'6, stands at the end of the course. Other challenges await Catanzaro and the other Oklahoma City qualifiers.

Catanzaro led the Tigers to a 20-5 record as a senior and a four-year mark of 75-16. She was a member of the Tigers' 2009 and 2010 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships teams. As a senior, Catanzaro was named the NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year. She won the all-around title at the ECAC Championship meet and the ECAC title on the bars.
