PHILADELPHIA – Despite double digit saves from
Taylor Sebolao, the Towson University women's soccer team dropped its final nonconference road game of the season, falling 2-0 at the University of Pennsylvania on Friday night.
The two sides traded scoring chances in the first 10 minutes, but a goal in each half by the Quakers (4-1-0) gave Penn the win at Rhodes Field.
How It Happened
- Penn wasted no time putting on the pressure, testing Sebolao in the sixth minute. The senior keeper made the save, while her team countered for a chance in the seventh minute as Marissa Green ripped a chance.
- Sebolao made her second save of the evening in the 10th minute, stopping a would be chance by Penn's Sasha Stephens. Sebolao stopped the same Quaker in the 15th minute to keep the match scoreless.
- The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute on Paige Lombard's second goal of the season as she scored on a loose ball chance in front of the cage.
- Towson (2-6-1) got the final scoring chance of the first 45 minutes as sophomore Evelyn Neidert took a shot on goal in the 35th minute. Penn keeper Kitty Qu made the stop for a 1-0 lead at the break.
- Opening the second half, Sebolao was again tested early, making a save against Emma Loving in the 49th minute. The Tiger defense blocked a Penn chance in the in the 53rdminute to keep it a one-goal game.
- In the 58th minute, Sebolao made a save on a header chance from Olivia Blaber, followed by yet another save in the 64th.
- Towson was hit with two yellow cards in the 66th minute and the 72nd minute against Alexis Toles and Neidert, respectively.
- Penn tacked on its second goal on a breakaway chance in the 84th minute from Stephens. Allie Trzaska was credited with the assist.
- The Tigers' final scoring chance of the evening came in the 85th minute as Neidert took her second shot of the day, but the attempt sailed wide of the mark.
Behind the Numbers
- Penn controlled the offense, taking 16 total shots, with 12 on goal. Sebolao made a season-high 10 saves in the match. Her counterpart turned aside both Tiger shots on goal. Towson managed four total chances.
- Corner kicks were close as Penn earned half a dozen, with Towson taking four. The Quakers were hit with the game's only offsides call.
- Sebolao's 10 saves bested her seven against St. John's in the Tigers' last home game on August 26. Her 10 saves were the most in a road game since stopping a dozen at the College of Charleston on Oct. 16, 2015.
