Field Hockey Falls to Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Towson University field hockey team fell 8-0 on the road to Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Lady Eagles (2-0) scored six times in the second-half to defeat Towson (0-4).  
 
How it Happened
  • Towson had its first scoring chance of the game on a penalty corner opportunity in the 16th minute but was unable to convert. A minute later, sophomore Erika McKay put a shot on goal but was denied by Lock Haven's Stephanie Whiteman who earned the defensive save.
  • Freshman Paige Zaleppa recorded her first collegiate defensive save in the 22nd minute to keep the Lady Eagle's Alyscia Smith from a scoring opportunity.
  • Lock Haven broke open the game in the 27th minute as Michelle Enck scored near the post on a pass from Dana Lee DeGannes. Lock Haven added a second goal three minutes later as De Gannes scored from Colleen McCabe on shot redirected by junior goalkeeper Emilee Woodall.
  • The Lady Eagles scored six times in the second-half to defeat the Tigers 8-0. The second-half scoring included a goal and an assist for George, McCabe and Emily Robb.  
 
Behind the Numbers
  • Woodall tallied 11 saves, including six in the first half.
  • The Tigers recorded their second defensive save of the year as Paige Zaleppa made one in the first-half. Both of Towson's defensive saves have come from freshmen (Carli Herman, Zaleepa).
  • The Lady Eagles outshot the Tigers 26-1. McKay had Towson's lone scoring chance, recording her first shot of the season.
  • Lock Haven was awarded 17 penalty corners to Towson's lone chance in the first-half, capitalized on two chances.
 
Up Next
  • Towson returns home to Johnny Unitas® Stadium for a pair of weekend games against La Salle and Ohio University. The Tigers take on the Explorers on Friday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Towson hosts the Bobcats for their 40th Anniversary game at noon.
  • Towson's 40th anniversary of field hockey being elevated to an NCAA championship sport will be celebrated on Sept. 11 against Ohio. Alumnae who attend the game will be recognized at halftime.
  • The anniversary weekend includes a chance for former players and their families, significant others and guests to attend Towson football's home opener against Saint Francis University on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. Tours of the field hockey locker room, renovated Towson Center and brand new indoor practice facility, along with an on-field reception and in-game recognition will take place.
