WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior
Julymar Otero posted her second triple-double of the year to lead a balanced attack as the Towson University volleyball team earned a 3-1 win at UNCW on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. Otero was one of five Tigers to record double-digit kills in the contest which helped the Tigers (17-3, 3-3 CAA) snap a three-match losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNCW scored six of the first 10 points in the first set and took an early lead.
- The Seahawks (7-11, 1-5 CAA) pushed their lead to 10-6 on an attack error by the Tigers.
- Towson responded with a 6-2 run of its own and tied the set at 12-12. Sophomore Silvia Grassini and Otero each had two kills during that stretch.
- The two teams traded points as a kill from junior Jocelyn Kuilan tied the set at 18-18.
- UNCW used a 4-0 run to take a 22-18 advantage. Sydney Brock had a kill and a block during that stretch.
- A pair of kills from Grassini allowed Towson to battle back and tie the set at 23-23.
- A Madison Peters' kill gave the home team a 25-23 set win and the early lead in the match.
- Otero and junior Olamide Sonuga had a kill and a block each, which helped the Tigers open up a 9-4 lead in the second set.
- A service ace from freshman Camryn Allen allowed the Black and Gold to take a 13-7 advantage in the stanza.
- Another kill from Grassini pushed the Towson advantage to 19-11 and UNCW called timeout.
- Following the break, the Tigers scored six of the next seven points and claimed a 25-12 set win. Grassini's service ace closed out the stanza and allowed the Tiger to tie the match at 1-1.
- A kill from Kuilan gave the Tigers an 11-5 lead in the third set.
- Sonuga extended the Towson advantage to 16-11 with her kill.
- A service ace from redshirt junior Anna Holehouse sandwiched between kills from junior Carola Biver and Grassini pushed the visitors' lead to 20-13.
- The two teams continued to battle before a kill from Sonuga closed out a 25-20 set win and gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead in the match.
- The fourth set was the closest of the match as the two sides fought through 15 ties and five lead changes.
- Towson trailed 20-19 before a kill from Otero started a 6-2 run by the Tigers to close out the set. Back-to-back kills from Biver secured a 25-22 set win and victory in the match for the Tigers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Tigers hit .353 in the match, their best hitting percentage in a match that went four sets or more this season. Towson's best hitting percentage came in the second set as the visitors hit .517 in that stanza. UNCW hit .255 in the contest.
- Otero recorded her second triple-double of the season as she finished with 12 kills, 22 assists and 12 digs.
- Otero was one of five Tigers to record double-digit kills in the contest. Grassini had a season-high 14 kills and hit a blistering .778 (14 kills, no errors, 18 attacks). Biver added 13 kills while Ertz and Sonuga had 11 kills each.
- Biver had 15 digs as well for her sixth double-double of the year. Sophomore Marrisa Wonders finished with 35 assists and 15 digs for her team-leading 10th double-double of the year.
- The Tigers tied their season-high with seven service aces in the contest. Biver led the way with three aces while Grassini added two aces.
- Holehouse led the defensive efforts with 19 digs and five assists.
- Maddy Kline led UNCW with 11 kills and 16 digs.
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as they travel to long-time rival Delaware for a 6:30 p.m. match.
