Last Time Out For Towson
Zane Martin and
Mike Morsell combined for 37 points as Towson's late rally from a nine-point second half deficit fell short. Morsell also made the 100th 3-pointer of his career. Despite not making a basket for nearly nine minutes of the second half, Towson had the ball with a chance to win the game in the final 20 seconds. A last second three-point shot attempt hit the front of the rim and the Monarchs grabbed the rebound. A trio of Tigers (
Justin Gorham,
Dennis Tunstall and Martin) had seven rebounds each.
A Look At Frostburg State
Frostburg State is a Division III school that competes in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The Bobcats return 11 players, including an All-CAC second team selection Tyler Michael. The Bobcats capped last winter with an 86-80 overtime upset of 11th-ranked Salisbury on senior day. The Bobcats finished with a 7-18 record and won three of their final five games. Michael averaged 16.5 points per game to lead Frostburg. Edwin Cole averaged 9.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game last season. Head coach Webb Hatch, the winningest coach in Frostburg State history, will retire at the end of the season. He's one of 15 coaches over the age of 70 that are head coaches and members of the NABC, regardless of division. The Bobcats will officially begin their season on Friday when it meets Case Western Reserve in Cleveland.
SECU Success
This is the fifth year of SECU Arena, Towson's gem of an arena. The Tigers are 45-16 all-time at SECU Arena after finishing with a 12-3 home record last season. Over the last two years, the Tigers are 24-6 at home.
Board Bosses
Towson outrebounded ODU, 46-31, in its season opener. Towson had 31 defensive rebounds against ODU. Since Skerry took over the program in 2011-12, Towson has grabbed at least 40 rebounds 89 times.
