Tigers Focused For Quick Trip To Loyola

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team will take its shortest trip of the season when it visits Loyola. Separated by 4.1 miles, this will be the 74th meeting between these two programs.

Who Needs Triple A
Towson is about to bring the travel channel to life because this game begins an interesting and busy 15 days. Beginning Friday, Towson will play seven games in two states and another country, traveling over 8,876 round trip miles in the process.
 
A travel agents dream, Towson will fly to Florida Saturday to compete in the Gulf Coast Showcase where it play three games. Once the Tigers return to Towson on Thanksgiving morning and host St. Mary's College on Monday, Nov. 27, they will get back on a plane and take their longest trip of the season.
 
Towson will make a 3,333-mile trek across the Atlantic Ocean to Belfast, Northern Ireland to play a pair of games in the Belfast Classic. This will be Towson's second journey outside of the United States in six months. The Tigers spent a week in Canada during August.

Last Time Out For Towson
Deshaun Morman, Jordan McNeil, and Justin Gorham enjoyed career best scoring performances to lead the Towson University men's basketball team to an 89-45 victory over Frostburg State at SECU Arena Monday evening. This game was part of the Gulf Coast Showcase tournament. Morman and McNeil were two of four Towson players to hit for double digits as the Tigers won their home opener for the fifth consecutive year. Morman scored a game high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. McNeil tallied 13 of his 17 points in the second half. Sophomores Zane Martin and Gorham finished with 10 points each. Gorham also complemented his effort with a career best nine rebounds.
 
A Look At Loyola
The Greyhounds are 0-2 after dropping a 64-52 decision at Fairfield on Tuesday. This is Loyola's home opener. The Greyhounds also lost 79-75 at 19th-ranked Northwestern in their season opener. The Greyhounds return 75.8 percent of their scoring and 78.5 percent of rebounds from a year ago. Four players who started more than half of last year's 33 games return for the 2017-2018 season, and another player returns after starting 13 games. Andre Walker was one of five players named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team by the conference's coaches. Walker scored 27 points against Fairfield. He was the only Loyola player to reach double figures. Loyola was picked sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll. Loyola received 15 votes in the latest CollegeInsider.com mid-major poll.
 
Last Meeting vs. Loyola
Alex Thomas scored 11 points and grabbed a career best seven rebounds to help the Tigers defeat the Greyhounds, 70-53, for the second consecutive season. Thomas also blocked a season-high three shots. Mike Morsell led Towson with 21 points. Towson shot 50 percent for the game (24-for-48) and raced to a 41-17 halftime edge. Towson limited Andre Walker to six points.
 
Board Bosses
Towson has outrebounded 50 of its last 54 opponents. Since head coach Pat Skerry took over the program in 2011-12, Towson has grabbed at least 40 rebounds 90 times. In each game this season, Towson has had three players finish with at least seven rebounds. Gorham leads Towson in rebounding at 8.0 per game.

Though it's a small sample size, two games to be exact, Towson leads the CAA in scoring defense (51.0), scoring margin (+20.5), field goal defense (33.6), 3-point field goal defense (12.5), rebounding (49.5), rebounding margin (+17.5), offensive rebounding (16.5) and defensive rebounding (33.0).
