Towson's Road Trip Commences With Visit To Oakland

TOWSON, Md. – After taking a break for final examinations, the Towson University men's basketball team returns to the hardwood to begin a challenging four game road trip. The first stop for the Tigers is a date against Horizon League preseason favorite Oakland in a Vegas 16 reunion.
 
Riding a 10-game winning streak, the Tigers are ranked fourth in the latest Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Towson has been ranked in the poll for four straight weeks. Towson also received votes in the Associated Press poll for the third consecutive week.

Last Time Out For Towson
Eddie Keith II's first career double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds highlighted the Tigers' 78-65 triumph over UMBC on Saturday, Dec. 9. Towson sprinted to the finish by outscoring UMBC, 27-11, over the final 12:38. Zane Martin led Towson in scoring with 15 points. Deshaun Morman added 11 points and six rebounds.
 
A Look At Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies are 4-0 at home this season. Oakland has won all four home games by double digits with an average margin of victory of 18.7 points. Kendrick Nunn, an Illinois transfer, scored a game high 32 points while dishing out a career high seven assists as Oakland came up short against No. 2 Michigan State 86-73 Saturday afternoon at Little Caesars Arena. Also in double figures were Jalen Hayes and Martez Walker who scored 14 and 13 points respectively. Walker scored all of his points in the second half and recorded two four-point plays in the game. Oakland has made a 3-pointer in 915 consecutive games. Nunn, who was named the HL Player of the Week, leads the Grizzlies in scoring (23.0). Walker averages 20.5 points and Hayes adds 18.6 points per game. Collectively, they combine for 78.8 percent of Oakland's scoring.

Eddie Keith II scored 11 points. Martez Walker, Jalen Hayes and Nick Daniels were in the starting lineup that evening for Oakland. Kay Felder, who is now in the NBA, scored 27 points for Oakland.

Historic Start
The 10-1 start is the best in Towson's Division I era. It's the second best behind the 25-1 start by the 1976-77 team. The Tigers are tied for the third longest winning streak in Towson men's basketball history with 1991-92 team.
 
The Company You Keep
Towson is tied for sixth nationally in winning percentage (.900) along with reigning NCAA champion North Carolina, Stephen F. Austin, Xavier, Michigan State and Boise State.
 
Contributions-A-Plenty
Seven different players have recorded multiple double-digit scoring games during the streak. Eight Tigers have had at least one double-digit outing. Nine Tigers have averaged double-digit minutes. Zane Martin has scored 20 or more points five times during Towson's win streak. He is shooting 64-for-119 (53.8 percent) over the Tigers last 10 games. He set his career-high twice in a four game period, dropping 24 points against St. Mary's and 25 points against Morgan State.

Comeback Tigers
Towson has rallied from two double-digit deficits to win games this season. Towson overcame a 19-9 deficit to beat Penn (79-71) and a 23-10 hole to beat Manhattan (56-55).
 
Up Next
Towson continues its four-game road trip when it visits Pitt on Friday, Dec. 22. It will be the second consecutive year that Towson will play a road game against an ACC school.
