Towson Welcomes Morgan State For Battle For Greater Baltimore

TOWSON, Md. – The challenges continue to come for the Towson University men's basketball team.
 
While the recent national attention has been awesome, the Tigers have their sights on reinforcing their status as the kingpins of Baltimore college basketball and extending a few streaks when they host Morgan State.

Last Time Out For Towson
Mike Morsell hit a baseline jumper with 1.5 seconds remaining to lift Towson to a 56-55 win over Manhattan and the championship of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic in Northern, Ireland. Zane Martin led Towson with 20 points. The Tigers rallied from a 13-point first half deficit and led for 48 seconds. Brian Starr had nine points for the Tigers, who also got eight each from Eddie Keith II and Morsell. Towson won the rebounding battle, 42-23. Martin was named tournament MVP after averaging 20 points in both games. Eddie Keith II was named to the all-tournament team after scoring eight points, grabbing seven rebounds and collecting three steals.
 
A Look At Morgan State
Members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Bears are in the midst of an eight-game road trip. This is their fourth straight away contest. Phillip Carr scored 15 points and Martez Cameron added 14 points and with a game-high six assists, but Morgan State fell to Navy 66-59 on Sunday afternoon in Annapolis, Md. The Bears are the MEAC preseason favorite. One of Morgan State's wins was over South Florida of the American Athletic Conference. Cameron (11.6 ppg.), Carr (11.5) and LaPri McCray-Pace (11.3) are Morgan State's top scorers. The Bears score at a 64.8 point per game clip.
 
Talking About the Tigers
Towson received a vote in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since Nov. 11, 2013. This is the second time in program history, Towson received a vote in the AP Top 25. Both times have been under head coach Pat Skerry. The NCAA tweeted a story about Towson's Belfast experience to its 1.94 million followers and the Tigers were featured in Andy Katz's national college basketball notebook.
 
Nationally Speaking
The Tigers were ranked sixth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.7), seventh in scoring defense (59.6), 25th in rebounding margin (9.1), 26th in field goal percentage defense (37.7), 28th in 3-point field goal percentage (41.8), 29th in total rebounds (367), 40th in scoring margin (+15.6) and 42nd in rebounds per game (40.7).

Towson remains home to host UMBC on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. As part of Towson University's "Stuff-a-Bus" Toys for Tots promotion, any fan that brings a toy to the game will receive a $5 ticket.
