TOWSON, Md. – If the Towson University men's basketball had its way against Drexel Saturday afternoon, there will be nothing remotely close to a sequel of the classic the two teams played last week at SECU Arena. Towson outlasted Drexel, 104-103, in a double overtime duel for the ages.
Now nine days later the venue is different. Towson enters having won three consecutive contests by a combined seven points. The Tigers have also won eight of their last nine games. Drexel enters the game riding the momentum of an 18-point wire-to-wire victory over William & Mary last night.
Fans may want the same type of exciting and memorable affair that featured 16 lead changes, nine ties, clutch shots and tremendous plays by both teams, but Towson would be perfectly fine with a lot less drama. The game will also serve as a Philadelphia homecoming for
John Davis and
Zane Martin, both of whom starred at Neumann-Goretti High School.

A Look At Drexel
Freshman Kari Jonsson scored 23 points Thursday night to lead Drexel to a 79-61 win over the William & Mary Tribe. Jonsson connected on six of his 12 three-pointers en route to his 23 points, which were two shy of his career-high set at High Point. The Dragons never trailed the entire evening, jumping on the Tribe with an 11-0 run to start the game that included eight points from Jonsson in the game's opening three minutes. Rodney Williams and Austin Williams added 10 points each for the Dragons. Kurk Lee finished the night with 13 points of 6-of-10 shooting and added five assists. Like Towson, Drexel has four players averaging double figures led by Rodney Williams, who scores at a 16.8 point per game clip. Lee (14.6), Sammy Mojica (10.8) and Jonsson (10.0) are also double digit scorers for the Dragons.
Last Time Out
Towson rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Hofstra, 69-65. The Tigers limited Hofstra to 28.6 percent shooting after intermission.
Deshaun Morman led Towson with 13 points.
Mike Morsell added 12 points and
Arnaud William Adala Moto finished with 11 points.
Comeback Tigers
Towson has rallied from five double-digit deficits to win games this season. Three of those games (FDU, UMBC, William & Mary), the Tigers trailed by double digits at intermission. Towson has erased double-digit deficits to win in its last two games against William & Mary and Hofstra. Even though Towson lost at Boston College, the Tigers erased a 13-point first half deficit to lead by three points with five minutes remaining. So far through research, Towson, Winthrop, Loyola (Md.), UT-Martin, and Mississippi State are the only schools to rally from five double-digit deficits to win games this season.
