Dejter Sparkles As Towson Blanks Miami (Ohio)

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Towson University softball team concluded the Carolina Classic by defeating Miami (Ohio), 8-0, Sunday morning. The Tigers split four games during the weekend tournament to raise their overall record to 6-7.
 
How It Happened
  • Madison Wilson and Megan Dejter were selected to the all-tournament team.
  • The Tigers scored in four of the five innings.
  • Shelby Stracher and Kendyl Scott paced Towson's nine-hit attack with two hits each.
  • Stracher, Nicole Stockinger, and Brook Miko all hit solo home runs for the Tigers.
  • Miko scored two runs.
  • Dejter struck out three batters en route to the complete game shutout victory.
  • Holiday Cahill started Towson's scoring with a two-out RBI single in the first inning that scored Scott.
  • Towson took advantage of an error to score a pair of runs in the second inning to expand its advantage to 3-0.
  • Stockinger swelled Towson's lead to 5-0 with her first homer of the season a two-run blast with one-out that scored Daria Edwards, who led off the inning with her third double of the season.
  • Towson put the game away in the fifth inning by adding three runs to its lead.
  • Stracher and Miko hit back to back to homers. It was each player's second homer of the season.
  • Scott finished the scoring with a RBI hit that scored Caroline Reid with Towson's final run.

Towson will then face Ball State at 12:30 p.m. and South Florida at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. The Tigers conclude the tournament with a 9 a.m. game against Penn on Sunday, March 5.
