TOWSON, Md. – A second half surge lifted the No. 12/15 Towson University women's lacrosse team to a 10-7 win over Oregon on Saturday afternoon in Johnny Unitas® Stadium. The Tigers (7-3) used a 7-0 run in the second half to win their fourth straight contest on Hometown Heroes Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oregon got the scoring started at 26:43 as Shannon Williams wrapped around the back of the net and powered one home.
- Towson responded with goals from sophomore attacker Natalie Sulmonte and junior midfielder Kaitlyn Montalbano. Montalbano's rifle shot gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with 12:41 left on the clock.
- The Ducks (6-4) used a late goal from Bella Pyne to send the two squads into the half tied at 2-2.
- Oregon scored two of the first three goals in the second half and took a 4-3 lead with 24:21 to play in the game. Williams struck for her second of the day while Jill Zubillaga scored as well.
- Towson took the lead back for good with a goal at 19:39. Senior attacker Samantha Brookhart passed the ball from the behind the net to sophomore attacker Carly Tellekamp who buried it home.
- The goal started what proved to be a crucial 7-0 run that gave the home team a 10-4 lead with 5:36 to play.
- Brookhart struck for a pair of goals during that run and added an assist on redshirt senior attacker Alyssa Ferro's score. Junior midfielder Emily Gillingham contributed a goal and an assist during that scoring stretch.
- Oregon scored the final three goals of the game but it was not enough as the Tigers claimed the 10-7 victory.
- Pyne and Zubillaga each scored their second goal of the day during that closing stretch.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- LaMonica recorded her 80th win in her 124th game of the Towson sidelines. She now has an 80-44 record in the midst of her seventh season on the Towson bench. Doherty recorded her 79th win in 123 games on the Towson sidelines.
- The game served as the Tigers' Hometown Heroes game and members of the military and first responders were recognized before and during the game.
- Sophomore Angie Benson made nine saves, including five in the first half to earn her sixth win in goal. Becca Katzen made four saves in the loss for Oregon.
- Towson finished with a 28-21 edge in shots and won 11 of the 20 draw controls in the game.
- The Tiger defense continued to make its presence felt, recording 14 caused turnovers in the game. Freshman defender Olivia Conti and junior defender Tianna Wallpher led the way with four caused turnovers each.
- Brookhart finished the game with four points on two goals and two assists. She also added two ground balls and a draw control.
- Brookhart's two helpers gave her 26 for the season. The senior, who entered the day ranked second in the nation for assists, now has eight games this season with multiple assists.
- Gillingham finished with a goal and two assists and three caused turnovers.
- Pyne led Oregon with two goals and an assist for three points and also recorded two caused turnovers.
Towson is back in action on Saturday, April 1 when it travels to James Madison for the Tigers' Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opener at 1 p.m. That game will be broadcasted on Lacrosse Sports Network as the CAA Game of the Week.
